And once again a U2-album is the stuff I'll write on, this time it's the album "War" which was released on 28th of February 1983. However, again some lines on the band and the warning, this report will be very long, important places are the preconsideration (3)., the songs (4). and the result ... Read review

lyrical vision, War is a brilliantly conflicted album, sounding martial and majestic while its very purpose is to tear down false idols propped up by politics. "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "40" take the subject of Northern Ireland's troubles head-on, while it's the subtext of "New Year's Day", which is about a sundered love relationship symbolic of a greater division. "Torn in two, we can be one," Bono pleads, as Edge's guitar scratches and snarls behind him. Songs such as "Two Hearts Beat as One" and the delicate "Drowning Man" take a back seat here, but they help make War a compelling and well-rounded album. --Daniel Durchholz
Advantages: Experimental album, lyrics, 3 classic-tracks, 2 hits, the booklet is much better. Disadvantages: The presentation of "40", sound, the booklet is still not good enough yet, lyrics with mistakes.
...bandname U2 and the title War is to be seen suitably in red and exclusively capital letters. If anybody might know more about Peter Rowan, who adorns a numerous of covers on U2-records, I recommend him a visit of the following web page.

This album suffers from the fight on emotional, physical, political and mental levels. I must tell You, I like this cover very much, it is suitable to the music, to the title ... ...parade / commemorative celebration of war veterans in Enniskillen / Northern Ireland wasn't particularly fine. 11 people fell victim to the IRA-poster, thus another "Bloody Sunday" for U2. Bono attacks fthe IRA in public and thereupon becomes also a nominee traded on high for the death list on which principally high-ranking British politicians and members of the royal family are still standing. Bono says in "Rattle & Hum"-film-version:"Well, here ...

Advantages: Sunday Blooody Sunday, thought provoking Disadvantages: some wek tracks, not for everyone's taste
...Blair and Hussein that World War 3 would ensue and destroy this planet. It is a terrifying thing to think about. I am sitting hear writing this review listening to U2?s third studio album War released in 1983. This album deals with War whether it be bomb in Northern Ireland or the much more serious advent of nuclear missiles and the casualties of war. We may be fighting Iraq and Afghanistan rather than Russia and Iran now but how relevant is this ... ...my trusty vinyl copy.
War is from the period when U2 were not a massive stadium act as they are now but were still very interested in political activism The other background detail to remember is that all of the group apparent form Adam Clayton were heavily Christian and the songs such as 40 and the lyrics in Sunday Bloody Sunday such as "the Victory Jesus won" are very spiritual. The cover.
I do not tend to dwell on the cover of an album but I ...

Advantages: Songs from when they were intent on saving rock, not the world Disadvantages: Bono's mullet; Edge's bald patch (the usual, then)
...version of the album. War is the U2 album that features the close-up of the scab-lipped boy with his hands bhind his head in mock surrender. It is a gatefold album of 10 tracks, nicely packaged with the lyrics to only the tracks on the A-side of the album.
SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAY kicks the album off with it's incendiary drum beat that I've never heard the like of before or since. After the first two bars you can feel that something special os going ... ...with as much quality as War has got often needs a lesser standard track to give you the impression that the band are human after all. Certainly, on any other album they've done, this would have settled in nicely, but with such tough oppostion abound, the weaknesses in the lyrics and melody of this track are all too glaring. "40" and SURRENDER end the album with the latter's wipsy, ethereal vocals making a nice change from the organic raw sound of ...

...individual human heart, speaking in Sunday Bloody Sunday of “the trenches we dug within our hearts”.
With their idealism and anger, their joy and outspokenness, U2 sometimes appear to be a combination of Sixties hippie and Seventies punk. War was a great album, their best to this point. ...

War, like all the early studio albums from four piece U2, is predomenently rock, dominated by Larry's powerful drum beats and Edge's strong riffs. The opener of the album, Sunday Bloody Sunday, has a drum rythm resembelant of a march, topped off with Edges graceful guitar notes and Bono's thought provoking lyrics. Seconds, and Like a Song are similar, although hold less meaning towards the Republican/Loyalist dispute. New Years Day is a wonderful ... ...wonderfully catchy and emotional song. The remaining tracks, Drowning man, The Refugee, Two hearts beat as one, Red Light, Surrender and "40" are all strikingly similar, but great in there own way also. If you liked Boy and October then you will like this, it is a step up from then. You can notice the maturity of lyrics and guitar, as well as adam's bass playing. Buy this album, you won't be dissapointed ...
