Waves - Heiko Laux

Advantages: Hard hitting, fast, fun, and loud music.
Disadvantages: 50 Foot Wave is not music that everyone will dig.

...Picture Sonic Youth and early Nirvana. Forget that. How about Johnette Napolitano of Concrete Blonde sings lead for a hybrid form of Henry Rollins' Black Flag. Ah, never mind. I can't figure it out. I know it screams though! I am talking about an old face and a new band. The face is that of Kristin Hersh. The band is 50 Foot Wave. And you better prepare yourself for the flood! In 2003 with the flowers wilted on the grave of what was once Throwing Muses and Kristin Hersh's solo career on a temporary hold after the release of the Grotto Hersh sets off on a new course. She tapped long time Muse bassist, Bernard Georges and found drummer Rob Ahlers (Fun Fact #1) and created 50 Foot Wave (Fun Fact #2). The trio came together to make a unique sound with the new band. Advantages: A fine collection
Disadvantages: Some people may find it just too alternative.....

...tracks to be precise - 'Hey', 'Monkey Gone To Heaven', 'Debaser', 'Gouge Away', 'Wave of Mutilation', 'Here Comes Your Man' and 'Tame', as well as the b-side 'Into The White'. The album they came from is an essential one for any rock music fan's collection - buy it now!! All of these tracks are anthems in their own right - and if you think you're unfamilar and new to the Pixies - the likelihood, no, the certainty is you will have heard at sometime in your life the likes of MGTH, Debaser or HCYM, if not more of them...... From 'Bossanova' comes 'Velouria', 'Allison' and 'Dig for Fire', as well as b-side 'Winterlong' which concludes the album. 'Velouria' is a beautiful piece of music, and is certainly one of my 3 favourite Pixies tracks, and it should be one of yours too!! It could be argued from here on in, they were sliding down from... Advantages: Catchy!
Disadvantages: Can get repetitive

...The Faint are a very talented band who write some amazing songs. Blank-Wave Arcade is not my favourite album overall, but it does contain some very good songs. The first song, Sex Is Personal, provides a good opening to this album - in both the actual song and the name, as the songs on this album seem to have a relatively sexual theme. Worked Up So Sexual is one of my personal favourites by The Faint, and is one of the more modern tracks on the album. This album isn't the best by The Faint - be sure to check out Danse Macabre and Wet From Birth, but whether you're a fan of The Faint already or not, be sure to check the album out anyway....
