I've always liked Westlife, though I have never actually gone out and bought one of their albums. And with the recent release of their latest album, 'Where WeAre', the case was no different. However a friend of mine who is head over heels in love with Westlife wanted my opinion on the album and, keen to find out what their music was like nowadays, I jumped at the chance, ready and raring to explore.
The cover of the album is quite attractive, a pale sky blue that gives a sense of peace and calm. The four band members are on the front, a distant photo of them all dressed in dark clothes and walking slowly. Again it is all so peaceful and welcoming - definitely a cover that would attract me to the album amongst others. You'll find that Westlife covers are generally black or blue so it does mean that fans know what they are looking ...
Advantages: Smooth, more chilled than his other albums with a much slower pace. Disadvantages: It took so long getting to us!
Spike (1989) was well worth the wait, as there was nearly a two year gap between this album and Blood & Chocolate. But when I first put this album in my tape player (showing my age now), and I heard the first song ''This Town'' with lyrics like 'everybody in this town thinks your a bastard'; I sighed a hugh sigh of relief. Costello was back with more of those addictive comments of society that I love more than chocolate.
The album uncharacteristically takes a slower pace with the second song "Let him dangle", a lazy jeering song with seriously dark undertones. Then it slows down even more with the third song (and my favourite) "Deep dark truthful mirror", the piano and trumpets in this are really spectacular in a relaxed easy way. And from here you trust in Elvis again and he really does deliver. One thing that I can say about ...
Advantages: It's Westlife and their back! Only one cover - thes rest originals! Disadvantages: None!
