Advantages: Easy to listen to.1or2 really good songs on this album.Bit psych-pop reminiscent of the 60s. Disadvantages: Blends easily into the background and nothing different really.Bit pretensious and samey.
Soundtrack Of Our Lives are the kind of band that I would really like to be able to rate highly. On paper they work, dubbed the band to bring the psych-pop of the 60s to a new level, in actuality I am not at all convinced.
Ebbot Lundberg(Vocals) and Bjorn Olsson(guitar) have a musical CV that boasts having created some really great bands (Union Carbide Productions) amongst other really good musical experience. Like I say on paper they are totally employable.
Vocally they are harmonious and melodic in just the right quantities and musically they are too. The album sounds well recorded and their music isnt bad at all. But the main problem I have with this album is that blends so easily into the background-even at heavier points in the album and with punchier lyrical points in the album (Sister Surround-'Im not afraid to fall ...
Advantages: High-energy groove-dance-rock-funk music - fantastic band! Disadvantages: Mostly their old stuff - I'd like to hear some of their new songs live.
This DVD is of Northern funksters The Music at their 2003 tour's homecoming gig at The Blank Canvas, Leeds. Through the clouds of smoke (dry ice?), coloured lights and oceans of waving arms and flailing crowd-surfers, we see the young dance-rock crew struttin' their groovy stuff across the stage. The first thing that struck me (as I have never seen them live before... hopefully I'll get to see them one day...) was how much their songs sounded like the studio versions: I'd always thought that a lot of the sounds on their debut album "The Music" required assistance from drum machines, synths, keyboards etc., but they don't. The Music manage to get futuristic dance music out of 4 boys with guitars!
Singer Robert Harvey's voice seems to be a love-it-or-hate-it thing (like Marmite): unusual, unearthly, unique, unmistakable, and suited ...
Advantages: all the best Roxy tracks in concert Disadvantages: none
Roxy Music reformed in 2001 after 18 years apart.
No new material but the tour was a triumphal success, proving that Roxy could still cut it in the 21st century.
This double live album collates tracks from all across the tour, seemlessly edited together to create the ultimate Roxy concert.
From the opening thrill of "Re-Make /Re-Model" to the closing sigh of "For Your Pleasure" this is simply one amazing track after another.
Not only are the original songs effortlessly recreated on stage but there are numerous little embellishments that actually improve upon the originals. For example - Colin Good's beautiful piano into to "A Song For Europe", Chris Spedding's slide guitar in "Both Ends Burning", Lucy Wilkins' gorgeous voilin embellishments in "Tara" and many more.
All the classics are present and correct - "Virginia Plain" is ...
