I only ever buy compilation albums to get into a band. After that, I only buy original stuff. WSOSFRAR was my first ever Sabbath album, and it made Black Sabbath my favorite band overnight.
When the rain and thunder of Black Sabbath's intro came blasting down my headphones, followed by Tony's heavy guitar, I almost fell off my chair. My parents aren't great rock fans, so I'd never heard anything like this before. I LOVED IT!

When the rain and thunder of Black Sabbath's intro came blasting down my headphones, followed by Tony's heavy guitar, I almost fell off my chair. My parents aren't great rock fans, so I'd never heard anything like this before. I LOVED IT!
Ozzy's traditional wailing voice really adds to the heavy feel of the music on this album. The compilations features all the band's early classics, such as Paranoid, Black Sabbath, Children of the Grave (my absolute hands-down fave) and Iron Man. All great fans of the good-old Ozzy days would love this album.
Listen carefully to the lyrics on the album, and any half-sentient amoeba will realise that there's a message to be taken from them. Many of the songs on the album feature, or are, references to Ozzy's drug addiction. For instance, Snowblind, The Wizard, and Sweet Leaf, where Ozzy sings of the effect drugs have on him, and what he experiences when he takes drugs. Deep :-)
The cover sucks. Sorry, guys, but it does. I know it's just a comilation, but you could have done something better than just plain text on a black background! Or is that the desired effect..?

Album Notes
2 LPs on 1 CD. The CD omits two tracks ("Warning" and "Laguna Sunrise") from the original 2-LP set. Black Sabbath: Ozzy Osbourne (vocals); Tony Iommi (guitar); Geezer Butler (bass); Bill Ward (drums). Producers: Rodger Bain, Patrick Meehan, Mike Butcher, Black Sabbath. Black Sabbath is responsible for penning some of the greatest hard rock/heavy metal tunes of all time, and nearly all are featured on the double-album WE SOLD OUR SOUL FOR ROCK & ROLL. Released in 1976, the collection includes material from the band's 1970 self-titled debut through 1975's SABOTAGE. While many key album tracks are absent due to time restrictions (such as "Into the Void," "After Forever," "Sabra Cadabra," "Symptom of the Universe," "Supernaut," etc.), the collection is about as exhaustive as a 77-minute collection can possibly be. Sabbath's early favorites, "Black Sabbath," "Wizard," and "N.I.B.," contain a slightly more bluesy edge than the band's later material, while "Paranoid," "War Pigs," "Children of the Grave," "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath," "Sweet Leaf," and "Iron Man" remain amongst heavy metal's finest moments. Several oft-overlooked tracks are featured, such as "Fairies Wear Boots," "Am I Going Insane (Radio)," "Tomorrow's Dream," "Changes," and "Snowblind," making WE SOLD OUR SOUL FOR ROCK & ROLL an excellently balanced collection. If you're a newcomer to the wonders of Black Sabbath, WE SOLD OUR SOUL FOR ROCK & ROLL simply can't be beat.
