Album Reviews: Q (1/91) - 3 Stars - Good - "...Every Christmas The Roches take to the streets of New York as part of a charity carolling group and this album is a celebration of that spirit as much as the event itself."
Advantages: Brilliantly creative, inventive, innovative... etc. album played by a stunning list of musicians Disadvantages: some might find it pretentious
...sty lings and the fact Fripp isn’t trying to be bombastic with his guitar. It’s a sonic investigation and bloody brilliant with it. Better than the version on the Gabriel album, frankly.
But I am trying your patience with this long winded deconstruction most likely, so I shall pare it all down too. Following Exposure there are a number of simpler tracks, such as his Water Music I, II and Urban Lanscape which are early solo frippertronics. Perhaps these aren’t his best but then he’s investigating new sonic territory (though in some ways similar to what Eno was doing) and technologies that would serve him well for the future (especially the re-instatement of King Crimson).
I May Not Have Had Enough Of Me But I've Had Enough Of You is shouting match between Hammil and Roche set to music. I’m not sure who wins but this is a suitably...

Advantages: cardboard cut-outs of the band Disadvantages: Not to everyones taste...takes some getting used to
...Here come the kings of experimental music! This album has been long await by their few very lucky fans and if you like things that are a bit strange and different, then you would definitely be one of their fans. With a band whose names are Michael, Michael, Michael and Chris....you can't go wrong!
Best song picks:- Less than three
Fear of words
This is vanity
For something so original, this is an absolute bargain. I would also advise going to see this band play live because their on-stage antics are just as strange as their music, for example, the stop point start maneuver, which when mastered can be used to your advantage, like when trying to impress your mates, or during a job interview.
WARNING: MUST BE LISTENED TO ENTIRELY IN 3D!...

Advantages: A fantastic party album - thumping beats, wonderful melodies, and genuinely intelligent music. Disadvantages: None!
...I first came across The Egg when this album was played constantly at my place of work. They aren't very well known, except on the live circuit, and that can put people off. I am certainly not a fan of 'alternative' music, since I usually find there's a very good reason why they're not mainstream (ie, they're rubbish). However, The Egg are a different story altogether.
Albumen recieved critical acclaim from all sectors of the music press, from NME to Melody Maker, to online fanzines and even The Sun. Strangely though, the closest most people have come to hearing them is with Rollo's thumping dance remix of one of their singles from 1999, 'Getting Away With It'. Albumen, their first album, is almost uncategorisable. It isn't dance, it isn't electronica, and it isn't (spit) jazz. It's a combination of all three, in a funny kind of way...
