...If I get started talking about the best band in the whole world I'll never stop! Backstreet Boys are without doubt an extremely talented group of 5 American guys, who can not only sing and dance well, but can also manage to do both at the same time and still sound fab. How many groups now appear on Top Of The Pops and mime their way through their latest song? Too many! Backstreet Boys ALWAYS sing live, even when they are performing a dance routine at the same time, they don't need to mime as they sound fantastic both in the recoding studio and out of it. Myself and my daughter went to see them in Concert at Earl's Court last year and boy, were they fantastic! ...Like all great pieces of art, on first listening Narrow Stairs makes you stop and take notice. Thirty seconds in and I'm relieved to hear that Death Cab have not resorted to pop riffs or drum patterns to push their way into the chart, rather continuing to create the brilliant alternative music that we love them for. The stand-out track has to be the rhythmic and rather brave "I Will Possess Your Heart". An inspired yet simple bassline drives the track through over 8 minutes of sheer sonic joy, including the first four and a half minutes which have no more than bass, drums and piano. It works beautifully. There are a couple of tracks (No Sunlight, Long Division) which definitely get you moving and seem perfect for alternative par-tays. ...Just got this CD yesterday, and have played it non-stop ever since. We own all three Steps CDs, and both my husband and I agree that this one's the best so far. We already knew, and liked, Summer of Love and It's The Way You Make Me Feel; there are other tracks similar to these on the album, which have a lively, bouncy feel to them. One which is particularly good - future single? is Never Get Over You. But the more romantic ballads are also excellent, in particular Hand on Your Heart, Paradise Lost, and the torch song ballad If You Believe (I could keep that on repeat endlessly!).
