I first heard this amazing group on TV (Glastonbury '05) when they played an amazing cover of Motorhead's "Ace Of Spades" Let me first just start by saying that before I heard this band I was quite narrow-minded about 'bluegrass' music but these guys take it to another level - and some. Hayseed Dixie (pronounced AC/DC) are mainly renowed for their cover songs of rock bands, and this album (Weapons Of Grass Destruction)is no exception, This album features 15 tracks (5 of which are their own tracks) The rest are mind-blowing covers that are techniaclly excellent the speed in which these guys play their banjos, guitars, violins & bluergrass mandolins is literally jaw-dropping. Highlights on this albums have to be A excellent re-work of Cliff Richard's, yes you heard right! "Devil-Woman" which I never rated as a song until I heard their version which has probably been doubled in tempo but is toe-tappingly addictive to listen to. Other highlights on this album is the cover of Status Quo's "Down Down" featuring Quo's Francis Rossi on guitar. It is amazing how 'tight' this band are all their key & cord changes are spot on & left me with goosebumps. Strawberry Fields Forever is a must listen about halfway through the track they suddenly medley it with "Cotton Eyed Joe" which surprisingly works really well. Another more surprising inclusion is a reworked cover of Scissor Sisters "Don't Feel like Dancing" which breaks up the rock theme well before heading back in to the rock covers once again. If you like amazingly quick & precise music then this album is for you before I heard this band I was strictly into dance music only, but now I am a huge fan of this band they just have to be heard to be believed. Truly awe-inspiring.
