A mixed mess of good and bad

Advantages: Every sacred music by Mozart in 1 boxset
Disadvantages: Not the best available

...at the time like the rest of the orchestra does. Quite a few of the smaller works (the misas for example) have the traditional, but no often heard plainsong or Gregorian chant at the begining of a piece of music. It would have been preferable to have these as single tracks (as most other record labels do), as they are not central to the main piece of music, and it can be a pain fast-forwarding to the main piece if you do not want to listen to it. The whole box set seems to be a mixed bag of played well and not so well, too fast and too slow, to loud and too quiet. Overall, there is nothing for me to recommend this above any other CD or boxset except that it is a complete set. A couple of Mozart's religious works have been recorded to death (I specifically refer to the Requiem!), but quite a few don't get a look in, and recordings can... Read review

They Make it Seem Like Anything BUT Work...

Advantages: Mellow, solid playlist, and a good introduction to the band's style
Disadvantages: Ummm , you might become so relaxed that you fall asleep?

...which certainly compliments the song. 3. Down Under This is one of the signature songs of MEN AT WORK. Overall more upbeat perhaps, but with those funky lyrics that seem to serve better at amusing and filling up the song than actually making any sense, as if written completely in foreign slang terms. "Travelling in a fried-out combie, on a hippie trail, head full of zombie, I met a strange lady, she made me nervous, She took me in and gave me breakfast..." While I still enjoy the undemanding, mellow, and cheerful qualities of this song, I think this one was overplayed here. So, it's not really the first tune I'd reach for if I wanted to hear MEN AT WORK. Despite that however, I still enjoy the flute in this piece, and will often listen to those parts if nothing else. 4. From Vienna to Venice

Advantages: Great music is always an advantage...
Disadvantages: Great music don't have it

...another world and the "recognition" that of the night makes the great Gustav opens the road to a series of questions on the art and on the world. We can hear timbres mix (texture) unusual to that epoch (we are in 1905) as, for instance, the beautiful trio of the "Scherzo" with mandolin and guitar that so much part they will have in the music of the composers of the so-called "Second school in Vienna" (Schoenberg, Berg and Webern). And whether to say some funeral march themes that play again entirely in a context "extraneous", almost "exorcism" of the death? We don't forget that Mahler was a lot of friend of Freud: the two often met theirselves and they exchanged ideas that then, somehow, we find again in the work of the one and the other. But, as I said before, every Symphony contains in itself of the such beauties that I hope... Read review
