Album Reviews: Entertainment Weekly (11/27/98, p.85) - \"...the acoustic sextet Origin is certainly among the most vibrant ensembles their justifiably proud pianist leader has ever led. A hoppying rhythm section and frisky players...keep Corea on his toes, and vice versa.\" - Rating: B

Review of Now He Sings Now He Sobs [Remastered] - Chick Corea by  kafouroutsos

Advantages: impressive neo bop piano work
Disadvantages: not to good for people woho like the fusion corea stuff

...One of the classic neo bop avant garde jazz piano trios that emerged in the 60's. Chick Corea gives us with that record, a classic example of neo bop with intense improvisations and high rhythmically complex motives and patterns. The influence from hard bop is obvious all the way through, but also the latin flavour that is the trademark of Corea's paino style, is from times to times implied through the use of latin vamps. The drumming of Roy Haynes is very good as well. Some songs like "Now he sings now he sobs" have become jazz standards by the years. It is recommended to all jazz friends and needless to say this is a must for pianists. A good example of Corea's pre-fusion work.... Read review

Chicks Rule the blue blue grass of home
Review of Wide Open Spaces - Dixie Chicks by  Newfloridian

Advantages: A polished all round performance from three feisty lovely ladies
Disadvantages: None really

...This year, 2003, could well be the year that the Dixie Chicks take Britain and Europe by storm. Now may be the time that we will be able to see and appreciate a musical phenomenon. Already they have played a speculative concert at Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London, been interviewed in the Sunday Times Colour Supplement and appeared on Top Of The Pops playing their recent single “Landslide”. They are currently on tour in America and plan dates over here towards the end of the year. The Dixie Chicks hail from Dallas, Texas and served a long apprenticeship of nearly a decade playing in a variety of venues such as barbeque joints, nursing homes, grocery stores and street corners. Sisters Martie Seidel and Emily Robison, with original vocalists Laura Lynch and Robin Macy, released their debut album in 1990. They received national attention... Read review

it's cooler than the movie
Review of Sweet Home Alabama - Original Soundtrack by  dakota196

Advantages: makes country hip
Disadvantages: doesn't have the 'original' version of Sweet Home Alabama

...-driven than the Ryan Adams song. 6. Keep Your Hands To Yourself - The Calling I think this is my favourite track - is the original? I'm not sure, but it sounds like the original. It's more rock/country and deserves a higher volume than the rest. However, it's extremely low on singalongability - there's a kind of leap to a high note half way through each line - not quite a yodel, but along those lines - that is hard to achieve - go ahead and try! 7. Bring On The Day - Charlotte Martin This song starts quiet and develops into a contemporary pop song - much like Avril's. It features prominently in the movie, so has good movie-reminder qualities. Other than that, it's a bit slow and doesn't seem to particularly go anywhere. 8. Long Gone Lonesome Blues - Sheryl Crow You wouldn't guess this was Sheryl Crow unless told - which means I didn...
