I tend to stick with buying the same sort of music and that usually is Hip Hop. On a trip out to my local club I heard a new song called "Welcome to Jamrock" and I loved it! I couldn't get it out of my head and I had to look into who is was and where I could get it.
My search (as they usually do) started on the internet and as usual Amazon popped up first. This album was advertised as being by Damian Marley and selling for £8.99 with free delivery. I quickly snapped it up and hoped I had made a wise decision and waited for it to arrive.
Artists Background ------------------------
Damien Marley, son of the well know reggae artist Bob Marley (RIP), is the youngest of the family of Marley brothers, Ziggy, Julian, Stephen and Ky-mani. Born in Jamaica and known as Jr Gong. This is his third album release to date after, Mr Marley in 1996 and Halfway Tree released in 2001.
Album in general --------------------
Damien Marley definitely has some of his father's qualities when it comes to music. He brings us this mix of original dancehall reggae with a R&B/Hip Hop vibe.
His music has hit Jamaica hard with the truthful lyrics, portraying the political violence and poverty that has hung over his country for so long.
Welcome to Jamrock the track off this album has been released into the singles charts and has risen to success.
With the hard-hitting truthfulness in his lyrics and the talk of hope for his home country the whole album is inspirational both lyrically and musically.
There is a mix of everything in this album like the softness of track 11. Road to Zion which features his brother Stephen Marley. With the gentle tones of both his voice and the music in the background this is definitely one of my favourites.
Pimpa's paradise (track 7) is another slow soft song but talking about hard issues of drug using turning into prostitution. The gentle way that it is comes across I find quite emotional.
Hey Girl (track 10) starts to become a bit more up beat and has a slightly electro feel..."Hey girl the way you make me feel....there's no-one who can touch my heart and soul...." this is another one of my favourites and I feel certainly should be released as a single.
But my ultimate favourite from the whole album is the one that has been released in to the charts ( isn't it always the same!). Welcome to Jamrock (track 3) this is also the title track off the album and no wonder why. The hard bass lines and heavy reggae style raps makes this my top pick. The lyrics are somewhat hard to understand but they have an original sounds that I have not really heard out on the popular scene.
Conclusion ---------------
I really love this album and I haven't stopped playing it for ages. There truly is such a mix of songs that I can listen to the whole album and not flick through a single track! (Which is unusual).
I have shown it to a few of my friends and some did really like it too.
The lyrics are some times hard to understand but I can get the gist of all of them. The music is varied and put to each track very well.
With 14 tracks on the album it certainly is a bargain for a mere £8.99 and I would recommend it to anyone that likes R&B, Hip Hop reggae or Bob Marley.
10/10 for Damian Marley's Welcome to Jamrock.

Great review! Damian is an absolute legend in his own right. As a HUGE Bob fan I have a subconscious tendency to compare new music to his but this CD is just THE BEST! One of the best CDs I own in my vast collection. I love the track "Beautiful" the most. Clare xxx
