Oasis and Blur were in battle at the time this album was released. Roll With It and Country House battled it in the singles charts, with Blur’s Britpop number going in at number one, with Oasis right behind at number two. That was how far the battle went really, as Oasis won the war of the albums. Where The Great Escape by Blur didn’t really have much of an impact, Oasis’s (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? Did excellently. I am not sure about how many were sold at the time, but well over a million I should think, and probably a lot more now!

This is really no surprise! This album is now considered a classic by most top magazines and music critics. This, Oasis’s second album has the correct mixture of songs to make a good album. It kicks off with Hello, ‘It’s good to be back’ Liam sings, and yes it certainly is! Everyone has heard of Roll With It, everyone has heard of Wonderwall, and Don’t Look Back in Anger, and Morning Glory, and Champagne Supernova, (most of the songs on the album really!) and most have heard of She’s Electric because of the simplistic rhythm guitar being played, easily copied by young teenage wannabies!

If you have read my other opinions on Oasis, I always say what a class writer Noel is, and I am going to have to say it again! Wonderwall and Don’t Look Back in Anger just have those sparky lyrics which everybody remembers, although not necessarily understanding! I am still unsure what Wonderwall actually means! She’s Electric is another one of those slightly comical songs, singing about a girl, who is simply electric, and the lyrics just fumble slightly, but the slight humour is there. Champagne Supernova is quite regularly on Radio 1’s National Anthems with Simon Mayo because it is such a simple yet classy song, which is easily empathised with.

This album is owned by all Oasis fans (well, I assume so) and a lot of people who aren’t, and this is for good reason. The music is great, the lyrics mean something, and the Gallagher’s give Oasis this edge, this image that a lot of other bands are unable to create. This album still gets played regularly in my CD player, and is still talked about when the top whatever albums of all-time are mentioned.
