What's the story? This is it.....
Before Oasis had burst onto the seen in 1994 we had had little to shout about as a music nation in truth we had little to shout about at all, thats why when Definitely Maybe burst onto the scene we all wanted a piece of the action. Why? Because what Oasis did was capture the feelings of many of us and gave us something to be a part of and something we wanted to call our own. They were the best band since the beatles and were threating to be bigger so we all waited and prayed that with (What's the story) Morning glory, they would deliver. Quite simply they did.
The songs.
The album kicks off with 'Hello' a very good guitar lead tune which straight from the off gives you a feeling of a more mature sounding oasis and the line 'hello, it's good to be back'(taken from garry glitter) has you saying 'it's good to have you back'.
From that they go in to the the first of many anthems on this album 'Roll with it'. Liam at rasping his best and noel leading with some great air guitar fodder and we're well and trully off and running.
'Maybe you're gonna be the one that saves me' sings liam in track 3, the great 'Wonderwall'. No maybe about it, you've saved us all. This track ranks alongside 'live Forever' and easily stands up alongside the greatest songs ever written it's a ballad and it's bloody brilliant!
Track 4 is 'Don't look back in anger' and gives a sample of noels singing abilities. He may not have that swagger and cockiness that you hear in liams voice but he turns this ballad into something really special with a less harsh sounding voice. Yet another anthem and we're only 4 tracks in.
track 5 'hey now' takes us down a gear and allows us to catch our breath. Not really a sing-a-long-song but more a lay back and enjoy. The type of song that has you dreaming of summer nights, drunk.
Track 6 is untitled but is the first of two excerts from 'the swamp song' an instrumental which is a B-side off 'Wonderwall'. Nothing more than a 44 second break to think about the greatness you've just heard and chance to hope you're in for more.
'Some might say' track 7 wastes no time in picking up where the other anthems left off and has you reaching for your air guitar once again. Liam is simply sensational on this one and leaves you feeling worn out with enthusiasm.
Track 8 shows a more poetic side to noels writing with 'cast no shadow' a trully beautiful song dedicated to Richard Ashcroft formely of the Verve. Liam lays off with the heart pounding singing to give a more relaxed sound. Very much like 'Wonderwall' in it's acoustic sound, another classic.
Track 9 'she's electric' is very upbeat and is quite amusing with some of it's lyrics. It sounds like i wouldn't have been out of place on Definitely Maybe, which tells you something of the quality it brings to this album and a good reminder of why most of us waited with such expectation for this album.
Track 10 is the brilliant 'Morning Glory'. A great guitar track with wicked vocals from liam and a real summer evening anthem. This will have you jumping up and down with your mates, like you just don't care.
Track 11 gives us the second excert of 'the swamp song' which yet again gives us time for reflection and sets us up for the finale.
Track 12, the final song 'Champagne Supernova', THE EPIC! This tune manages, somehow to put together a mixture of everything we have just heard and leave you begging for more. It's 'hey Jude' but bigger and better. It takes you on one last emotional roller coaster and stamps Oasis' authority as the best band in the world.
The Conclusion.
Whether you love or hate Oasis there is no doubting that this album sits up alongside the best albums ever and you'll be sorry you hadn't bought it sooner.
