This is the album that has spawned anthems that can be belted out by a bunch of boozy locals and still feel equally as satisfying echoing the walls the worlds most grand stadiums.
The important thing to keep in mind is that while this is not definately maybe, this is a completley fresh album, and that while it doesnt quite hit the peaks of DM it remains arragant in a way Be Here Now took too much advantage of.
For me, it is the perfect melting pot of Oasis, Noel Gallagher's song writing had hit the heavens. Although apart from the title track (referencing heavy drug use) the lyrics's are mental and self admitedly generally mean nolthing, each song leaves you wondering, and eventually you enjoy them so much you interperet your own meanings.
From the starting line Hello delivers the goods although shamelessly robbing from the most un flattering source, ''Hello, Its Good To Be Back'' thankfully is now associated with The Brothers From Manc rather than Gary Glitter.
The singles are just something else, Wonderwall, although overplayed over the years its a fantastic achievement for song writing in general, Don't Look Back In Anger is just a gripping song and overall a homage to John Lennon (albeit a respectable one). The cornerstone however is Champagne Supernova, this is where Oasis for me reached the promised land, at clocking in around 7/8 minutes it was always going to be hard for this one to suceed, but how do you stop a song as open, deep, grandiose yet so simple, in its tracks.
Other Highlights include the second hidden track featuring Paul Weller on the mouth organ and what was later to be renamed 'The Swamp Song'. Roll With It is good but lacked the feeling that wonderwall or DLBIA had so much of.
Do not let yourself or your children grow up through your/their teens and adolesence without hearing this album. Oasis Came, They Saw and they indeed conquered.
