Britain's latest lyrical genius, Alex Turner really steals the album with his unique style of song writing. Featuring a great deal of wit, annecdotial observation and social commentaries so effectivley crafted it would make Paul Weller proud. So when you think this is a debut album, you won't be suprised that this is instantly compared to the sheer quality and musical force of Oasis' Definatly Maybe. Trebley guitar riffs are perfectly complimented with funky basslines in the vein of The Jam, complimented by relentless drumming which is topped off with lushiously with Alex Turner's Sheffield twangy and nasal voice. It is about time a British band full of energy came along and filled the void through what is a top 40 tracklist full of very bland singer songwriters singing nonesense about the sea (James Blunt, KT Tunstall and the like). They have already inspired hundreds of would be Gallaghers, Wellers and even Turners now to start up a band of their own. Their influence has been immense already and you can hear a bit of them in nearly every indie band since such as The Pigeon Detectives, using the same observational lyric style, chunky barre chords and a unique singing voice. One of the best albums from the last 30 years, which is up there with Whats the Story Morning Glory, The Stone Roses and even Parklife. Very British music at it's finest. The lyrics are impossible not to relate to, as is the cover art. Working class music for the masses.

Advantages: The music is quite fun to listen to, great to dance along to. Disadvantages: A couple of filler tracks included here, very dodgy lyrics in parts.
