Advantages: Simple, lucid, powerful songs, Dylan is playing under conviction, a man with a musical mission Disadvantages: Rushed, unbalanced production which hasn't transferred well to CD. Not your usual Dylan, be warned!
...disclose, you know that Dylan believed what he was singing, giving it a particular candidness which either makes it more appealing or off-putting, depending on your stance.
And finally the album rounds off with a resonating gospel number, which rolls in circular pattern, using the same repetitive techniques as previous songs and hammering home the ultimate question, 'Are you ready? With a wonderful jazzy organ solo and an appropriately wailing backing chorus Dylan concludes one of the most controversial yet cogent albums of his career. And a stunned world is left to deliver its verdict.
** And finally your honour.. **
As you can probably tell by now, I like this album.
My two earliest forays into the world of Dylan came in the form of two cassettes I 'borrowed' from my Dad when I was about 10. One was 'Street Legal...

Advantages: Inspiring lyrics accompanied by lively, exotic music. Hurricane. Mozambique. Disadvantages: Joey is far too long.
...with Dylan’s Edenic descriptions (e.g. “the sunny sky is aqua blue” etc.). Full of optimism and joviality this song alone makes me desire a place to live in Mozambique (although in reality I expect it is a very impoverished country).
4. One More Cup Of Coffee (3.45)
I love to lay back and listen to this ironically sluggish and dreamy track. Although the lyrics are rather unambitious, the song drifts along and I find myself in a trance-like state as Dylan’s harmonica takes over in a wonderful solo.
5. Oh, Sister (4.02)
It is very similar to One More Cup Of Coffee with its Spanish / Mexican atmosphere. The pace is slow and languid but the lyrics are strong and pleading. Emmylou Harris is effective in partnership with Bob. Simple and effective.
6. Joey (11.05)
A little disappointing. Dylan tells an interesting tale about the “king...

Advantages: an unpolished gem, new instruments for dylan, a whole new sound Disadvantages: a few tracks that stop this being a masterpiece.
.... better than the opener. this is because the gospel backing is just as good, but hook is on a guitar, which seems to suit bob's voice much better.
and just when you thought it can't get better on the next track, it does. "no time to think" is a sprawling work of genius. this time the sax seems to fit the song better, the melody is so incredible too, it really infects your mind... the gospel backing comes in at the perfect moments... and the line
"I've seen all these decoys through a set of deep turquoise
eyes, And I feel so depressed."
just says it all, the rhythm and power is self-evident.
the next track, while not as good as the first three, is not a let-down, it's a very uplifting song, and the choruses are just as singalong as dylan ever ever gets.
unfortunately, these tracks set a very high standard...
