The 1950's were a rich musical time for King, as he reeled off hit after hit, including some of the classics recreated on this album, while the 60s saw King continuing his success, and finally moving from his home 'Kent' label to the more upmarket 'ABC-Paramount' label which was another step on his way to universal stardom. He really broke through in 1969 though, when his cover of Roy Hawkin's 'The Thrill Is Gone' made it well up the pop charts as well as the R&B charts, and he began to become more widely appreciated.
King survived well in the 70s, primarily because he wasn't afraid to experiment with the blues genre, working with smooth rhythm sections and jazzy backing singers to produce completely different sounds.

...What better than a Welsh electro rapper.... well if you can call him that. Akira (born Adam Narkiewicz) is an independent rapper of Welsh upbringing. Formerly of underground rap group 'Crack Village', his debut album "WhenWeWere Young" is a breath of fresh air amongst todays rap artists. Combining electro, rap and rock (amongst others), this album is very different to anything I had heard before.
The album opener (track 2 because track 1 is a speech) "Liverpool" is a great track to open an album with. It's upbeat, catchy and has some great lyrics and music loops. When I hear albums with opening tracks as good as this I want to listen on, the disadvantage to a good opener is that the rest of the album has expectations to meet!

Indeed it only made sense that the end would take place on top of the "Tallest Building in the World," at that time only two years old, thus creating one of the most iconic cinematic images that captured the imagination of the world, and particularly Americans. Helping along was the score of Max Steiner that was likewise an icon of its time. By 1933 the concept of a "film score" was not yet fully realised as we know it and Steiner's King Kong score is rightly considered as the first modern film score that all others following came to mimick.
