...After a few years of no releases from Adam Ant, there seems to be something of a revival at the moment. With the Antbox boxed set released in december and now this excellANT CD. The Complete Radio 1 Sessions is exactly what it says on the cover. The tracks are taken from four recording sessions at Radio 1. Tracks 1-4 recorded for John Peel 23/1/78, tracks 5-8 recorded for John Peel 10/7/78, tracks 9-12 recorded for John Peel 26/3/79 and tracks 13-15 recorded for Simon Mayo 13/1/95 16 years later. The first and second CD contain the classic stuff, including David’s 1968 session with the Tony Visconti Trio, while the third disc, a limited edition bonus CD included with the compilation when I bought it, is a recording of Bowie's stunning performance at the BBC Radio Theatre in Portland on 27 June 2000, which was recorded in front of a studio audience made up of a hundred-odd lucky ilegitimates chosen from the Bowienet community only two days after his appearance at the Glastonbury Festival. Advantages: A definitive early Bowie compilation

...This is probably the best compilation of pre "Alladin Sane" David Bowie that you can buy. It's a well selected compilation of radio sessions from the years 1968 to 1972. As a bonus you also get a live Cd recorded at the BBC Radio Theatre in June 2000. Because these are from radio sessions we get links and introductions from various beeb voices including Brian Matthew and John Peel which amuse and annoy in equal measure. The quality of the recordings are excellent throughout , and as such doubles an essential purchase for new listeners and Bowie-philes alike. Despite this being an excellent compilation , the first five songs are the pre "Space Oddity" Anthony Newley impressions (remember "Laughing Gnome", it's not here but it's not far away), so are dispensable but serve to illustrate how uninteresting Bowie was in the early days...
