synthesizer); Paul Godfrey (drums, drum programming, scratches).Additional personnel: Richard Harrison (guitar); Steve Bentley-Klein (violin, trumpet); Brent Snell (violin); Adrian Turner (viola); Richard Bridgemont (cello); Tom Hodges (flute, saxophone); Dave Lee (French horn); Gary Baldwin (Hammond C3); Jarrod Coombes (acoustic bass); Pete Norris (synthesizer programming).Recorded in London, England. This U.K. trio injects the aesthetics of trip-hop with a lush, languid, easy-listening air for a concoction that demands a deep, comfortable couch and a top-of-the-line set of headphones. The hypnotic, understated delivery of vocalist Skye Edwards floats over the sweeping synth arrangements, slide guitar, Hammond organ, and subtle technological trickery of brothers Ross and Paul Godfrey. WHO CAN YOU TRUST?, the band's full-length debut, includes the singles Trigger Hippie, Tape Loop, and The Music That We Hear. Atmosphere is paramount for Morcheeba, and TRUST's track list passes through a spectrum of colors. The opener, Moog Island, sounds like a sleepy siren song. Post Houmous lulls with its dub-inflected mid-tempo groove. End Theme is glossy retro lounge. But the whole album feels like one beautiful, continuous opium dream. Morcheeba references '30s blues, '90s electronica, '60s psychedelia, and film soundtrack soundscapes, blending these elements into a savory stream of pure sound quite unlike anything else. WHO CAN YOU TRUST? invites listeners to dive in.[Reviews]Village Voice (4/15/97, p.62) - A brother who's into blues, a brother who's into technology, and a sister (no relation) who sings so kind and calm there's a temptation to brand her bland. Their laid-baack beats and gentle, smoky tunes are enhanced by Ry Cooder-ish slide, funky wah-wah, and other simple guitar flourishes, as well as a reappearing Hammond organ and some occassional strings...Melody Maker (4/6/96, p.41) - Recommended - ...Best to say they take up where trip hop leaves off, picking up at its outer reaches and taking it way, way off into the Indian Ocean....A strange and bitter brew indeed.Entertainment Weekly (11/08/96, p.68) - ...Skye Edwards operates with an understated purr that sounds like Sade filtered through Portishead....[she] has enough hypnotic charms and charisma to counter the dangers of techno-riff overkill. - Rating: B+Q (5/99, p.132) - 4 Stars (out of 5) - ...For those coming late to Morcheeba, the limited-edition set is the ideal introduction.n

...This album is great, why hasn't anyone said so B4?????
Now some people don't like this sort of stuff, but they are wrong. A freind of mine who is into the worst kind of music ( Linkin Park, Crazy Town etc, etc) probably would steer well clear of this but she has no taste. This is for those people with more refined taste, but in saying that no one I know who has this album doesn't rate it. The best way to describe it is "Chill out" music. Wack it on whan you get back from a club and just let it wash over you. Much darker than big calm ( But Better) this is an early hours record, tunes such as "Trigger Hippy" will make you see why this is one of the best albums of the 90's. If I had to compare it to anything it would have to be a cross between Massive Attack and Portishead, Cool.
So if you like to take it easy when it comes to late...

...After listening to to morcheeba's "whocanyoutrust" and "Big calm" this new album released early July was a must buy for me. Although generally different to earliar albums these great funky electronic sounds mixed with a bit of hip hop for the ultimate in listening pleasure must go to the top of your to buy list. Look out for great new songs like "Love sweet love" featuring Mr Complex and "Love is rare". To sum the album up in one word its fantastic you must buy it, if you don't you need your head checked....

Advantages: Very relaxing, something a bit different Disadvantages: It ain't to everyone's taste lol
...about as a result of one of my weak points. The trouble with me is that I'm a sucker for a nice voice. Whether it's singing or just speaking, I reckon that a woman's voice says a lot about the person that owns it. For instance, I've discovered that there are certainly blonde voices and brunette voices - you think I've lost it and am talking rubbish? I might be being a bit random but it's true lol and has been tried and tested with a high success rate by yours truly. Anyway, when I first heard the voice of Skye Edwards I knew that I had to get more of what I had heard - so upon the strength of Tape Loop (one of Morcheeba's early releases), I bought WhoCanYouTrust? Their debut LP.
I enjoyed the combination of Skye's sultry vocals and the darker strains of the trip-hop backing and so I soon added their second LP, Big Calm to my collection...
