Advantages: Groundbreaking Rock and Roll Disadvantages: Possible Tinnitus
....
This album that was origonally put out in 1973 was mixed by David Bowie is a different beast to this remastered version. Where David's mixing was slated (sometimes unfairly) as being rather weedy this version mixed by Iggy himself is dirty, nasty and violent as it should be. The rythmn sections work is more prominent and there is a beautiful violent energy penetrating the sound, this is the sound of a band playing like they had nothing less to loose.
On top of the fanstastic music you also get a booklet with an interview with Iggy where he discusses the events that let up to the recording of this album, the recording of the album, and bring things up to date with the remastering process. These are full of anecdotes and insights into the procedings. There are also a few extra photos splattered arround which show just how dam good the band looked...

...The whole series of remastered CDs from EMI are well worth buying. This is classic old style Hawkwind-original, and as such should be treasured and enjoyed, and this CD will help you do that. ...Fleming-like world, with a distinct lack of spaceships and gadgetry, that the score was allowed to rocket off in such an outlandish direction. As mentioned, it really isn't a bad effort, and when it's good it's very good, but it does have a nasty habit of making the toes curl from time to time.
Here it is then, stretched out to a 58 minute running time with 7 extra tracks and a couple of unheard cues.
1. For Your Eyes Only (Vocals by Sheena Easton).
One of the best themes from the entire series, with nice vocals from Easton accompanying some great work on the credits sequence by Maurice Binder. A nice subtle opening, before Eastons soft vocals lead us gradually into the uplifting chorus with a fuller ochestration. More of a pop number, scored largely for guitar, keyboards, drums etc, rather than strings or brass.
2. A Drive in the Country...
