any bold, new directions. Instead, Winchester Cathedral has them heading down the same twisted path as their previous releases. Fans of Clinic will know what to expect, then: twisted and eerie artrock that sounds like Hitchcockian circus music, with the frantic "Country Mile" and its clenched-teeth vocal delivery setting the pace from the outset. All their trademarks are still here, from the whining harmonium to the jerky guitars. So Winchester Cathedral wont really garner many converts to Clinics weirdness. And thats a shame--for a band that prides itself on its quirkiness, Winchester Cathedral could have done with a bit more experimentation. What sounded fresh and exciting on Internal Wrangler, their 2001 debut album, now just sounds a bit formulaic and, all too often, repetitive. Still, at least their more die-hard fans will appreciate that W inchester Cathedral still sounds resoluteley like a Clinic album, and no one else. Few bands can boast that. --Robert Burrow

Advantages: Nice architecture Tranquil Clean and pleasant environment Disadvantages: Parking can be a problem
Winchester in Hampshire was reputedly the richest place in England during the 1980's and it most decidely conveys to the visitor the appearance of a well-maintained and affluent city. Its major attraction is undoubtedly the world famous WinchesterCathedral which has been a place of worship and prayer for more than 900 years.
This beautiful building houses the tombs of Saint Swithun, Izaak Walton and that brilliant novelist Jane Austen who spent the last few weeks of her life in College Street in Winchester.Tours can be made of the Cathedral and you can see the unique collection of Chantry Chapels and listen to the story of how the diver William Walker saved the Cathedral in 1906.
A visit to the Crypt is interesting to see the Sound II sculpture whilst the Triforium Gallery houses some great treasures such as the original ...
Advantages: Lovely surroundings and people Disadvantages: Shop assistants!
Winchester is one of the places which when you go there, you say that you would like to die. It is full of the nicest people everywhere, even in the shops, the street, even the street cleaners, and negativity is never around the next corner. The high street goes up quite a steep hill, but it is still beautiful. Most of the buildings are tudor, even the local Bon Marche and Vision Express. The streets might be concrete, but that isn't too bad. Cars are not aloud to drive on the high streets so you have the whole of the street for your self (well, at the top, when you get down to flat surface, there is a road which is mainly used for buses.
The bus system is good. If you want to get anywhere, a bus is always around the next corner. The buses are not too expensive either and they are really useful to get around, however small ...
Advantages: Beautiful cathedral and friendly guides Disadvantages: None
On a recent short break to Ripon in North Yorkshire, and having a liking for cathedrals as I do, I took the time to visit Ripon Cathedral with my partner.
Located just five minutes walk from the market square area of Ripon town centre, the cathedral is very easy to reach. There is also a car park a couple of minutes walk from the cathedral.
Ripon Cathedral is unusual in that, in common with only one other Cathedral in the country, it also functions as a Parish Church.

A LITTLE HISTORY
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Cathedral building itself began in the 7th century when St Wilfrid built one of England's first stone churches on the site.
St Wilfrid was educated at Lindisfarne and then travelled to Rome in 652. On his return, he became abbot of a Benedictine monastery and built a church in Ripon. The crypt of the church is ...
Album Notes
Third album from Liverpool art rockers follows up 2002's 'Walking With Thee'. This does little to mess with their unique formula of staccato riffing, wheezing harmonium and clattering percussion, all wrapped up in a muffled garage rock production style, which has earned them comparisons with the likes of Suicide and the Velvet Underground. Includes the singles 'The Magician' and 'Circle Of Fifths'.
