Full review
Now I first heard about Static-X through a friend. Then I saw their video “I’m with Stupid” on MTV’s Return of the Rock. At first I didn’t think much of it but after a while it was rather catchy. I enjoyed Wayne Static’s gibberish like singing. So I borrowed the CD from a friend. Now before you start to think that Static-X’s album is just a bunch of song s that you cant understand that isn’t the case. There are many songs that you can actually understand. Also if you look at the lyrics some of the gibberish actually makes out words. Now I enjoyed many songs on this album but some things put this album down are the song writing. Now some of the songs are a bunch of lines stitched together and repeated a few times. Now this will be unappealing but if you look up the lyrics you’ll see that it’s not n idiot blurting out nonsense but an educated young man blurting out poems three or four times. The lyrics are like that of Korn. My friend’s don’t really like them but then again my friends don’t like rock either. So once again I will be breaking down the album into songs and individually rating them.

Track 1: Push it
Like I said before the first song is an important piece. It should catch your attention and set the mood of the album. So this song has a driving riff and the drums also are pounding. This song doesn’t directly tell you what it’s about. It’s as if you are reading a complex poem. He is talking about himself. It’s a simple song. The vocals are good and the instrumentals are done well too. A good introduction it shows you that this will be an album pumped with energy and grinding metal. Score: 4

Track 2: I’m with Stupid
The first Static-X song I ever heard. I didn’t really like it much. Usually it takes a while for me to like a band. I have to listen to an album a few times and get used to their style and furthermore understand them. Once again simple lyrics used in a complex manor. I used a lyric page to understand this page. Because you will not understand what he is saying in an other manor. I supposed he is talking about a former love that wanted him to be someone else thus the use of the phrase I am min I am mine I can’t become someone else”. The instrumentals compliment the fast pace singing of Wayne. It’s a good song. Score: 4

Track 3: Bled for days
One of my favorite tracks. Once again the song has short praises instead of statements. Wayne Static is providing this track with his great vocals. He goes from the fast paced “rap” to the sick screaming in the chorus, which just hooked me. He is their growling Bled for days there into the background. The instrumentals are pounding in the background giving this song that metal edge. Score: 5

Track 4: Love dump
This song is somewhat a slow song on account that he is singing about that chick that he gave all he can for. As the compliments Wayne says in the first verse. Then changing the it around and saying how much he doesn’t love this person anymore. He is wondering what to say which is repeated with the phrase “hand me a line, really hand me a line”. Once again the riffs and the drums just pound with the vocals. It’s a good overall song but once again doesn’t pack any complicated lyrics. Score: 4

Track 5: I am
This song is also a great metal song. Wayne Static again uses that Taz talk. It works well with the riff. It’s a simple song. It captures metal and the wailing chorus is also done well. It’s a great song that pumps you up from the beginning. The ending is also cool. It’s a simple song but that’s what this band does, and they do it well. Score: 5

Track 6: Otsegolation
Lyrically it’s a short song. The instrumentals aren’t bad either. Wayne is singing through this song which really isn’t his element. This song is definitely easier to understand but it just is too different compared to the rest of the album. He is also spouting the word isolation at the end of the song. If you’ll read the lyrics it’ll make more sense. Score: 3

Track: 7 Stem
This one seems like a calm song. Wayne Static’s wail at the beginning of the song sets up an interesting melody. Another poem it’s phrases are a lot longer in this movie. He is repeating the same thing over and over again. It’s a decent song though. Score: 3

Track 8: Sweat of the blood
This song starts of with a rapid beat. It’s an extremely short song. It’s really a few phrases being repeated over and over again. The way that Wayne Static says it though. You can’t really tell. He does it rapidly this song is moderate but the instrumentals are done well. So they make it a little more then an average song. The riffs are awesome. That’s one thing Wayne Static does well. Score: 4

Track 9: Fix
Another one of those faced pace songs. In this song Wayne is asking for a fix. I wonder what that is? The way he screams out fix through the song is sick and he’s back at his level with the gibberish. Towards the end he’s asking for one more and I'm yours. Oh boy that must be some fix. Again the riff and drums are working with the screaming of Static. It’s a good song. Score: 4

Track 10: Wisconsin death trip
The title track is always supposed to be good. Now to actually understand this song you’ll need to now what was going on through Wayne Static’s head when he got this idea. Wayne said he saw a book by the same name in a flea market. It included haunting pictures of death from early 1900 in Wisconsin. What that has to do with the song I don’t know. All I know is that Wayne is as energized as he’ll ever be and riffs are awesome. Also there’s this bubble sound effect which is pointless but a nice touch. Score: 4

Track 11: The trance is in motion
I like this song a lot. Wayne does a good job with the chorus hollering away. The song starts of in a rather dark mood. Wayne starts off singing loud and the second time he’s hitting the decibel levels and at the peak of the verse the chorus starts. It’s just an awesome chorus with screaming in the background and Wayne hollering something about “the trance is in motion” Definitely a good song with the low riffs and the screaming all the good qualities of metal. Score: 5

Track 12: December
This is a great song to end this album. At first a relaxing reed pipe or something is playing for a minute. Then the bass hits and then the guitars. It’s a great beat and when Wayne Static starts the singing you wont believe it’s the same guy that was wailing in the last song. With it’s smooth vocals and great instrumentals to produce an original piece, which does kind of touch you. It’s a song about looking at the future and growing old. I’m not sure if other people will get the same effect but this song touched me. Score: 5

So that’s the Wisconsin Death trip broken down for you. It’s a great album and it introduces this band very well. I will be sure to pick up their second album. Seeing as how this album got me pumped I only wish I could get my hands on some concert tickets. I would recommend this album to anyone who likes metal. I would’ve loved to see Ozzfest 2000 because that had just about everyone. Some of the bands included Pantera, Static-X, Disturbed, Incubas, Godsmack and of course Ozzy. That must be a killer show.
