While dark side of the moon will always be remembered as the album which made pink floyd the biggest band in the world, wish you were here is far richer musically and is a better album overall. THe first track (shine on you crazy diamond) is perfect and rather than dragging on shows the true genius of the Band. It combines blues, electronica, rock, jazz and every other genre under the sun, a truly fitting tribute to Syd Barret. The second and third tracks are a little different. Welcome to the machine is dark and grusome but has some startling lyrics and shows Pink Floyd at their most inventive. Have a cigar is a little more conventional but still oozes class. The title track is probably the most famous pink floyd song ever and rightly so. Possibly the best lyrics ever written are combined withthe Floyd's musical flexibility to bring a truely great song to life. It is altogether more structured than Shine on you crazy diamond. The continuation of shine on you...... is more of the same and the end of the album leaves one hungary for more. If you are going to buy one Pink floyd album, forget dark side of the moon, make it this one.
