filtered through ferocious electronics. Unfortunately, the trick's impact was often watered down by a tendency toward petulance and self-absorption. Still, almost six years after NIN's last release, The Fragile, the trick itself has lost none of its Teen-Beat-from-hell appeal. With Teeth blisters from the start with "All the Love in the World," and tracks like "The Collector" take full advantage of Dave Grohl's sledgehammer drumming. Reznor stretches occasionally, trying out different tactics, from crunchy, overtly commercial rave-ups ("The Hand That Feeds") to borderline New Wave ("Only"). But Teeth isn't about stretching. It's about doing the same trick, only better, with less clutter and more bite. By neatly distilling the sparseness of Pretty Hate Machine with Downward Spiral-style density, it ends up being the most focused record in the NIN catalogue. --Matthew Cooke
Advantages: Fantastic New Album for NIN fans Disadvantages: none
...Starts off slow with "All The Love In The World" which is a nice mellow offering but the old familiar feeling of angst anger whatever you want to call it smashes in here and there as you progress through the album.
It kicks in with "You Know What You Are" up with the tempo and the wonderful in your face "Don't You F***** Know What You Are ?!?" Fast and Good with a reassuringly familiar NIN sound to it..."Everyday Is Exactly The Same" again a more ... ...album. A good strong song with great lyrics, a great beat - great music ! "...got your chin held high and you feel just fine 'cos you do - what your told -but inside your heart it is black and its hollow and its cold - just how deep do you believe when you bite the hand that feeds..." just to quote a bit..it's a definite catchy one.
Another quick mention for "Getting Smaller" It's noisy bouncy and shouty...and a Wonderful NIN track "...Well I thought ...

jaw-dropping Review ofWith Teeth - Nine Inch Nailsby
icklekitty
Advantages: surprising, not what you'd expect from the, better than your average rock band Disadvantages: no instrumentals
...song that a band beginning with "The" could have done, y'know, if they were competent. "I am a good boy and i will swallow it all"
The Hand That Feeds: I'm sure every NIN fans knows this by now. Ultra poppy, makes Closer sound like a Wumpscut song. They played it on CDUK last week. Kind of political.
Love is not Enough: Kind of hard to get into. This really doesn't have a tune to it, you really have to listen to it to hear it. Distorted guitars ... ...favourite so far starts of with a plinky plonky piano, like Slipping Away. I can't get over the fact that he says purpose like Kylie. "i used to have a voice/now i never make a sound". In spite of there being no instrumentals, the ambient soundscapes definately feature here. Expect this to be on some film soundtrack in the future.
With Teeth: Sanctified, 15 years on. Less synthpop, more postmodern. About a powerful woman figure. Probably the best ...

Advantages: Still dark and emotional as ever, more accessible than past efforts Disadvantages: One or two tracks sound like they were recorded to keep MTV happy
...If ever an album were to be described as a 'grower', it would be The Fragile through and through. I dont say it often, as there are mobs of post-The Fragile NineInchNail fans out there waiting at my door with bricks and baseball bats, but.....I LIKED THE FRAGILE. In fact i loved it, and now that the next album has been released I feel that it may just be safe to say it without having to go to confession. Oh yes, the new album. Its called With Teeth, and is once again drenched from tip to toe with Trent Reznors heart ache, self pity, and general hatred.
But there is more. You see, Trent has come back with an ACCESSIBLE album, and i say that in Caps Lock because with the kind of music I listen to it doesnt get said often. Take a deep breath, now join me as I take you on a journey....
When The Fragile was released it didnt really...

Advantages: Excellently crafted album, where every song has everything but the bare essentials stripped down. Disadvantages: Lacks depth, and can feel very 'MTV' and cheesy in places.
...Well, what a difference there is between this album and the last release. Where as 1999's The Fragile was a meandering, 'slow to catch' piece of audio-art, With Teeth feels much more like Reznor is considering his audience when writing; perhaps too much in places. Fans of With Teeths predecessor will be dissapointed by the 'stripped down' approach to this album, whereas Pretty Hate Machine purists will be thrilled by the independence each song holds from its neighbours.
There is a lot in this album that feels uncomfortable or uneasy for NineInchNails to be putting out, which with time settles in, and fits a band with the pedigree of a band such as this. So lets start with the faults.
My all time favourite NIN album has to be Still, the oft-overlooked almost acoustic album Reznor put out in between the two albums I've already...

...THE BAND
NineInchNails is a band formed in Cleveland, Ohio in 1988 by Trent Reznor. The only constant member is Reznor with other musicians coming and going. Trent Reznor IS NineInchNails. Other members featured on The Fragile (and at the live shows) are:-
Robin Finck - Guitar, Synthesizer
Danny Lohner - Bass, Guitar, Synthesizer
Jerome Dillon - Drums
Charlie Clouser - Synthesizer, Theremin
The genre is a bit harder to pin down. They are usually classed as industrial but there are so many different sounds to them: metal, rock, punk, electro, goth - you name it Reznor's done it.

Additional notes
Album Notes: Over the course of his musical career, Trent Reznor has managed to deliver a full-length studio album about every five years. Although he's a bit late with 2005's WITH TEETH (following 1999's THE FRAGILE), listeners are rewarded with Nine Inch Nails' most streamlined and straightforward record since PRETTY HATE MACHINE. Here Reznor cuts back on programming and synthesizers, opting for heavy use of guitars, bass, and--surprisingly--piano and live drums. In fact, the album's secret weapon is drummer Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters, Nirvana), whose thunderous percussive style gives certain songs--most notably the frenetic \"You Know What You Are\"--added weight and a welcome no-frills rock edge. Though the techno/industrial element of Reznor's music has been played down, his lyrics are typically angst-ridden, with dramatic tales of isolation, deception, loss, and love gone wrong. More than 15 years after his debut, Reznor is as tormented as ever, and Nine Inch Nails fans wouldn't have it any other way.
