Advantages: Nice music, good lyrics Disadvantages: A bit samey
...is not always by company cured / The cats are in the windows, dogs are at the doors / the lamps are lit and all the curtains being drawn / but you’re wanting his heart when I’m wanting yours.” He also sings it quite differently than you’d expect, with his voice rising and falling.
“Middle of the hill” is a good tune and great story, almost a stream of consciousness: “And the girl down the street said a dog couldn’t bark cause a man with an axe cut its voice box out. But my older sister told me that it probably wasn’t true and I believe what she said coz she took me by my hand one time, when a couple of men drove down the hill in a white van said there was a phone box filled with money round the corner and I would have gone along but she took me by my hand to the house on the middle of the hill”. Advantages: It's a Classic Disadvantages: Absolutely None
...Barry's score is a wonderful representation of understated yet epic, simple yet powerful, long-drawn but melodious music. Those references to John Betjamen (friendly bombs) and The Streets (grand for free) are not the only ones: "Will someone shoot that f~~~~~~ snake" starts off...
