A very good album - definitely worth buying! (Also I would reccommend seeing them live!). Not only are the songs brilliantly written with witty, memorable lyrics and fun, catchy tunes, they are also very well delivered. These Liverpool lads have been to music college and it shows - from the first to the last track, it is evident that they are capable of delivering exquisite harmonies and well constructed melodies.
The genre is one all their own. Mostly pop, with plenty of guitar-driven punk and the influence of indie and classic rock 'n' roll. A blend that should appeal to most. No song lasts much more or less than three minutes.
The opening acapello, Tales Of Girls, Boys and Marsupials sets their stall out early in the singing department and is a very pleasing musical experience. When the guitars eventually kick in with Kill The Director, the listener is not disappointed. These marsupials can handle their instruments as well as their voices, and, as mentioned already, their writing is fantastic.
The tone of the album is generally upbeat and fun. The lead singer's Scouse accent is an asset and the band are always willing to have a laugh, often at their own expense! This makes them come across as a bunch of genuine fellers having a good laugh. At no point will they be caught taking themselves too seriously. On the whole, this is refreshing, although they perhaps take it too far.
The best tracks are hard to pick as none fall short of the general standard. Kill the Director, Moving To New York, Backfire At The Disco and Lets Dance To Joy Division stand out as especially memorable gems of near-perfect punk-indie-rock-pop.
A Guide To Love, Loss And Desperation consists of thirteen catchy, chirpy three-minute crowd-pleasers, liberally sprinkled with infectious wit and great stick-in-your-head tunes. A fantastic debut album.

I was lucky enough to catch these before the pigeon detectives - never heard of them before then. They are a very good band indeed! Good simple review Mark

Advantages: A terrific album packed full of tremendously catchy tracks, fantastic music to dance to. Disadvantages: The music may not be serious enough for some.
