classic 1979 release was the second of his albums to be pressed on Joe Gibbs' Record Globe label and cemented his place in reggae's hall of fame. From the opening chords, Brown wastes no time establishing his roots credentials with the stomping and uplifting "So Jah Say". The horns of Jamaica's finest session stars chant out over Robbie Shakespeare's rolling bassline and Sly Dunbar's tight percussion. The dream partnership of Joe Gibbs and Errol Thompson at the controls makes Words of Wisdom one of the best produced albums of its era, and it shows in songs such as "Should I", which is for many Brown's finest tune, and of course the massive worldwide hit, "Money in my Pocket". While many reggae purists regard his first offering for the Joe Gibbs' stable, Visions, to be his best work, it was Words of Wisdom that launched his international career and it sees Brown at the height of his singing and songwriting abilities: he was 22 when it was recorded, and it is his warm, robust voice which really sells this record. These are some of his finest vocal performances, and for anyone who wonders how he gained the epithet "Crown Prince", this sublime offering gives all the answers. - Duncan Thomson
Advantages: Bible teaching put to music Disadvantages: Needs to be seen in context of his other works
...This album is actually the middle of a three-part collection of albums, which have been published under the title "The Ancient Faith", the first part called "The Beginning" takes themes from the 5 Books of Moses, while the third called "The Word: Recapturing the Imagination" draws on the Old Testament Prophets. The Way of Wisdom takes as its starting point the wisdom writings of the Old Testament - Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Song of Songs and Ecclesiastes.
The single most salient point to understand about Michael Card is that he does not see himself primarily as a musician, an entertainer or even a worship leader. Instead Michael Card is unashamedly a bible teacher, and it is this desire to impart deep spiritual truths that permeates all his work. To my mind, he has a rare gift in being able to unlock truth from the scriptures...

Advantages: Amazing powerhouse drumming, long solos. Disadvantages: All tracks sound stylistically the same.
...This album, Dennis Chambers, a world class drummer plays along with some world class musicians like Scofield (guitar), Michael Brecker (tenor saxophone), Randy Brecker (trumpet), Jim Beard (Clavinet, organ, keyboards and synthesizer) and Will Lee (bass guitar).
I've seen Dennis play the drums live and normally when he's playing to a backing track or in a group he plays more drum solos and fills than grooves. But in this album he's actually laying down more grooves and holding them.
Dennis chambers typical album consists mainly of funky bass line melodies and funky upbeat drum beats. But in this Outbreak album it's different to all his others. I t was much more brass and saxophone orientated than his usual styles.
To me, I think its one of the best fusion albums. If you're into the sort of funk, jazz, fusion style of music then I...

Advantages: Its the most summery album of the year yet! Disadvantages: People will be funny about it cos she was a Spice Girl!
...It's been four years since Melanie Brown (formerly Mel B aka Scary Spice) has released a single and five years since she last had a number one with the Spice Girls. 'Hot' wasn't a bad album but it never made the Top 40 (partly cos of the persona she created of herself) and she was dropped after third single from it.
Now signed with an independent label (Amber Café) she is releasing the long awaited second album. 'Today' the first single lifted off it has had great reviews, as has the album, but didn't set the charts alight. Now in an era where POP is dying quietly in a corner, Melanie Brown has come up with a secret stormer, here's why…
The album is opened with 'Today'; this tune is a brilliant opener! Its so sunny and summery, the verses are laden with a drum beat that's a bit African sounding, the chorus is a storming rousing...
