Works for Flute Solo

Advantages: lots of variation, combines metal with classical music
Disadvantages: It might be a little too much for people who like simple music,lyrics could be better..

...It's the first album for the great Italian symphonic metal band, a very unique style of metal music, or let me say of classical music… this band combines great classical music pieces of their composition with guitars (electric and acoustic), drums, keyboard and bass added to them vocal lines from a very talented singer called "Fabio Lione" creating a very nice atmosphere full of harmony and takes you back hundreds or thousands of years ago… Rhapsody is my favorite band of all the times! They play the kind of music that you can never get bored from, always changing, sometimes slow others fast giving the lead once to the guitar other to keyboard, flute, or violin exchanging the solo parts between each other in a very smooth way, just the very right parts follow each other in the best order you can ever imagine! Advantages: Cheap, easy to listen to
Disadvantages: Won't rock your world

...This is an elegantly packaged and well presented CD which pretty much does just what it says on the box. It is a re-release from EMI's excellent and superbly engineered back catalogue, well at this price what would you expect? The English Chamber Orchestra is ably marshalled by Sir Yehudi Menuhin, who for all his genius as a solo violinist, never really achieved top-flight status as a conductor. And alongside him the flute playing from Samuel Coles is bright and suitably mellifluous. These are pieces you will know, even if you didn't know that you knew them. Their vintage puts them at the back end of the time before period instrument performances began to dominate the market in classical music. In that sense this is a refreshingly full-bodied listen, without the up-beat tempi, straight-edged strings and honking wind and brass... Read review

Advantages: A Great Bit of Prog Rock History
Disadvantages: It is very definitley Prog Rock

.... Steve's brother John's flute work on this track deserves a special mention, as the double tracking of the flute being played randomly works fantastically, with the backing of twelve string guitar and harpsichord. The lyrics themselves are perversely whimsical. There is more sinister whimsy in The Ballad of the Decomposing Man, a tale of industrial mayhem set to the work of George Formby with nods to skiffle, Latin music and delta blues. The Brighton pier reference is bloody accurate here. The other sinisterly whimsical track here is Tigermoth. this starts off as a strange bit of experimental prog guitar work out, before switching to a tale of fighter pilots leaving this mortal coil in a slightly worrying fashion.
