this is such a briliant cd and book guide. i would highly reccomend this to all indian musicians and people interested in studying indian classical music , specifically north indian aka hindustani music. it has a deep explanation of the basics of indian music so that you can truly appreciate the ragas (melodic structures) and talas (rhythmic cyles) and more features unique to indian music. the cds are also great as they are thoroughly explained in ... ...that ram narayan has done that exactly in this cd. he really knows the in and outs of his ragas and can make a composition finish in 5 minutes or last for 2 hours. this is the mark of a distinguished musician in my opinion. i would reccomend this cd to all new comers to indian music. ... Disadvantages: Track 7 which feel odd to the others

...the covers. Carla Bruni may be Italian but this album is decidedly French. If you were a teenager who sniggered at the very mention of French pop music it's time to grow up and be a bit more open-minded. Even if you don't understand this album is worth a listen for the pleasing combination of simple tunes and Bruni's breathy vocals.
