The best solo playing you may ever hear
Review of Inveroran - Stuart Liddell by dmilligan935

Advantages: Absolute briallian solo playing
Disadvantages: Some acompliment would sound nice with some of the tracks.

Stuart liddell has to be one of the best pipers in the world today. Stuart plays with the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band, which has won two world titles, he has performed with the band in concerts at the Carnegie Hall and Sydney Opera House, both of which have been placed on the CD. He is a phenomenal player and a great guy, and i had the pleasure of meeting him. The CD has won several awards in the piping scene as well as best "Solo Piping CD ...
...the world has the accuracy, and the musicality of Stuart, and this comes through brilliantly on 'Inveroran'." A little break down of the tracks; The Centenary Jewel - A nice set of 2/4 marches to break into the cd and to start to realize how good this man really is. Inspector Donald Campbell Of Ness - A nice set of competition jigs, here you can get a mix of the perfect finger work along with his great taste of music. Mairi Bhan Og - A relaxing ... Read review

Advantages: Bouncy, traditional scots music
Disadvantages: Quite hard to get hold of

**What Is It?** The Celtic Collection vol. 3 is Ceilidh music. A celidh, by the way, is a dance with only scottish dancing. It is very clear and you can hear the accordion espiecially well! There is no voice in this and only the main folk instruments ...
...Quality** Very nice. Has a celtic not around the edge as a border then a view of the ocean. Think it is Loch lomond but not sure? Anyway very nice picture and the back with the traclist is clear. It does lack color however as it is green and yellow throughout. **Tracklist** 1. Flying Scotsman 2. Highland Scottische 3. Dancing In Harris 4. Dancing On The Road 5. Set Of Jigs 6. Duke Of Perth 7. Pass Me My Arran Sweater and Let Me Grow A Beard
Review of Rough Guide To Scottish Folk, The - Various Artists by Tuco_666

Advantages: Good Selection Of Old and New
Disadvantages: Induces a Desire to Dust out the arran sweater

I was deepley ashamed to find out that Scottish folk music is more popular in Germany than in Scotland. Considering that i come from a line of fairly distingushed Scots folk musicians I am also deepley ashamed that there is not more scottish folk music in my collection. The problems with delving into folk music is that there is a lot of utter tripe, and a certain amount of esoteric knowledge is required to help make any purchasing decision. Then ...
...at BBC Scotland and STV who for years did their utmost to promote arran jerseys and remove any trace of a regonal accent from any folk music that they broadcast. The wonderfull people at World Music Network are doing their utmost to put right the damage that has been done to Scottish Folk Music with this compilation. They describe this compliation as an ideal starting point for a deeper exploration of one of Europe's strongest living musical traditions ... Read review

Lui na Greine - a great CD!
Review of Lui Na Greine - Joe Mhici & Jimi Seosamh/Mac Grianna by Seamus1745

Advantages: Great whistle playing by a native Gael
Disadvantages: None

Lui na Greine is the time of day when the sun is just setting - a peaceful time to reflect on the beauties of nature and the world around us. The Gaelic language is rich with terms like this, and it is reflected in their music. Seosamh Mac Grianna ( known locally as Joe Mhici Jimi ) is from Rann na Feirste, a small rural community in the Rosses, near Gweedore in the Co. Donegal Gaeltacht. The region is rich with Irish tradition and culture, and ...
...talented people spring from this area, including such well-known groups and musicians as Enya, Clannad, and Altan. Joe's music is strongly rooted in the native language and traditions of his people. He has been playing the feadog (pennywhistle) since he was 7, and also plays the accordion, flute and fife. He is a world-class musician, and several of these tunes are his own compositions. He is joined by the multi-talented Manus Lunny of Capercaillie ... Read review

Songs of Love Songs of Freedom
Review of 30 Anos - Mercedes Sosa by Zmugzy

Advantages: A classic collection of Latin American songs.
Disadvantages: There is nothing worth a mention here

...mentioned on the sleeve. 30 Anos" presents a repertoire of classic songs from the roots of Argentine folk music to more contemporary compositions that form the soundtrack of Argentina's recent political struggles. This CD will allow you to hear Sosa's powerful and unstrained voice. With its extensive vocal range exuding expressiveness, colour and warmth - hers is perhaps one of the greatest voices of Argentinian music. Her songs are often simple ...
...accompanied by the sound of a single acoustic guitar, piano or mouth organ. You do not need to understand Spanish in order to admire and enjoy the power and emotion of Sosa's performances for she always sings from the heart. Mercedes Sosa is a dynamic and inspiring performer. Her music also sends a message that calls for peace, tolerance and understanding throughout the world. Tracks: 1. La Maza 2. Maria Maria 3. Gracias A La Vida 4. Todo ... Read review
