Advantages: A few good tracks Disadvantages: A bit too raw
Voi-la Intruder is the 1st album by Gogol Bordello and was released in 1999 by Rubric Records when the band was relatively unknown. The album has a much more raw style than the later work which has a more polished finish, the album is split in to two parts Movement One (Songs of Immigration in Voi-La Minor) and Movement Two (Optzay Pertruder).
The album sounds exactly what it is a bunch of drunk Russians with a mad Russian Ukrainian Gypsy (Eugene ... ...Europe (Poland, Hungary, Austria, Italy) fleeing from the eruption of Chernobyl before moving to Vermont thanks to a resettlement program.
With Eugene, you get somewhere between Borat and Freddy Mercury and it's always fun. This album though is a little bit too raw and a lot of songs just sound rowdy with an accordian. There are enough hits though where Eugene sneaks in and out of Russian and English seemlessly and tells stories in a more than legendary ...
Advantages: Some cracking tracks with humorous lyrics Disadvantages: A few weak tracks
Multi Kontra Culti vs Irony is the 2nd full album by Gogol Bordello and was released in 2006, Eugene Hutz's vocals are so mad that they end up sounding like The Proclaimers on acid. Starting the album off in style with When The Trickster Starts A-Pokin (Bordello kind of guy) and the spoken worded
As I walked into the bar
A man came up to me and said:
You know the older you will get
The more perverted you will get
which then sets off into an ... ...on the Border is an incredibly fun track of which the lyrics may or may not be of interest!
Hopping like a monkey on a holy toothpick
Is a rabbit on a pogo-gypsy stick
Give me no pain no great suffer
No bored striptease with dead snake
Give me skin that is dressed lively
Give it to me for kurav sake!
Then on to Haltura which is a bit too long and quiet for my liking, fusing ska with more balkan orientated ska and trumpets, not much is happening ...
Advantages: Origional music Disadvantages: Not famous enough
...album - "Together Alone".
Together Alone in Anouk's first Album, released on the 24th October 1997. It is a new style of songs for a new style of singer. Powerful, independent and inspirational, the album leaves you humming the songs all day and wanting you to hear more. My two favourite tracks being "Nobody's Wife" and "Together Alone" for their inspirational lyrics and strong tunes.
Tracks:
1. Nobody's wife - 3.25
2. Together Alone - 4.04
... ...Skin - 5.18
5. Sacrifice - 3.58
6. Fluid Conduction - 4.08
7. My Life - 2.46
8. It's A Shame - 3.25
9. Time Is A Jailer - 4.05
10. Mood Indigo - 4.35
Anouk has a voice that is hard to compare to, in the fact that she can sing in so many different styles and genres, and do it well! You may notice that her music doesn't repeat itself much at all, unlike some bands and artists, from song to song - album to album. This not only allows her to show ...
Advantages: Exciting; unique; passionate; challenging Disadvantages: Well, it's in Polish, so some may find that a disadvantage...
In recent years, the little-known Warsaw Village Band have risen from obscurity to earn some much deserved recognition, playing several high-profile festivals including Glastonbury 09, and even clinching the Best Newcomer award at the BBC Radio 3 World Music Awards in 2004. 'Uprooting' is a fine example of the band's capability, and also of their potential to grow and continue.
Comprising six young musicians from Poland's capital, the band blend ... ...passionate and hypnotising set of tracks which should be essential listening for any music fan.
I had the honour of first hearing the band when they performed at Musicport Festival 2008, a very surreal experience indeed as they were supporting Rolf Harris! Their set consisted of many of the tracks from 'Uprooting'.
The performance put on by the band was both aurally and visually stunning, in part due to their incorporation in their music of many ...
Advantages: incredibly underrated music very well produced and presented Disadvantages: none
...Devotion’ James Young's Joanna was made on the battered upright piano in his house - an instrument most pianists would reject without a moment's hesitation. Bad pianos - in pubs, bars, clubs, cafes and the parental home - are the bane of musicians and music teachers: the sustain pedal doesn't work; the felts are worn; mezzopiano is indistinguishable from fortissimo. And that's before you get on to the problem of keeping it in tune. Players develop ... ...wisdom on its head. Joanna is a hymn of devotion that both dignifies and delights in his old piano's imperfections. As Billy Jenkins wrote in Notes on Crap Pianos: "Years of warp and deterioration have ripened each mechanical artefact into its own unique sound. Do not attempt music scored for a good piano." Young describes his piano as "a ready-made that needed to be celebrated for its intrinsic peculiarities". There are antecedents: Virginia Astley's ...
