Advantages: AMAZING CD AND BOOK Disadvantages: none
this is such a briliant cd and book guide. i would highly reccomend this to all indian musicians and people interested in studying indian classical music , specifically north indian aka hindustani music. it has a deep explanation of the basics of indian music so that you can truly appreciate the ragas (melodic structures) and talas (rhythmic cyles) and more features unique to indian music. the cds are also great as they are thoroughly explained in ...

Advantages: good music Disadvantages: her playing!
i thought this was a good cd and had good music however, i do think that for the daughter of pt. ravi shankar ji she needs to improve her playing substantially. i was not satisfied with this cd and hardly listen to it. however, i would any day reccomend her other cds. this cd, with her father gave the impression to many people that she relies on her father where the fact is that she is esxtremely talented and just needs to focus. the tracks on this ...

Advantages: interesting new idea Disadvantages: sounds awful
When i first heard of this CD i was like WOW! For the first time ever someone is playing tunes on tablas. (the western equivelent would be playing songs on loads of drum kits all tuned to different notes). I bought the cd immediately and couldnt wait to play it at home.
I must admit though, when i played it, i could have killed myself. It was sooo dreadful. the most boring and monotonous music i have ever heard. it actually featured some of my favourite ... ...in to the store and buying this. i am soo sorry for doing such a negative review but i have to get this out. Please no body ever buy this cd because like me you will become scarred for the rest of you lives! also, if you are into world music or indian music, there are hundreds of other cds, buy them, not this. even if somehow you enjoy this cd (there must be something wrong with you ;) you will get completely bored out of your mind after the first ...

What can i say! Pandit Ravi Shankarji is an absolute legend. Having met him twice I have had the experience of meeting a true guru of music. This cd is what you can really call world global fusion. Its a lovely blend of all sorts of music but it also has some indian classical tracks such as track 5 which happens to be my absolute favourite! i love it to bits. The whole thing is very well orchestrated. The music is also astheitically pleasing and ... ...train journeys! :D
This cd is an amazing blend of indian modes and scales with western ideaology and orchestration but the combination is so well done that the result blows you away. I would definately reccomend this to anyone who is interested in world music. Also, it is great for people learning about orchestration or fusion. ...
