Advantages: Great soundtrack, thorougly enjoyable from start to finish Disadvantages: None
After reviewing the Tom Cruise film yesterday I thought I should review what I think is the best version of War of the Worlds (bar the original novel of course).
***Be aware that this review may well contain spoilers for the story, however even if you know the story from front to back, it would not spoil the enjoyment of this album.***
~The Album~
Released in 1978 this album (if you don't know what an album is, ask your parents lol) tells the tale of a Martian invasion as told in H. G. Wells novel of the same name.
The album consists of two discs and came in its own plastic sleeve, complete with a book/booklet which details the story as it unfolds and full lyrics for all the songs. The booklet also includes some marvellous paintings by Peter Goodfellow, Geoff Taylor and Michael Trim, my opinion is that The Birds by Geoff Taylor ...
Advantages: A great tribute to the adventure scores of the 1930's. Disadvantages: The constant action and too loyal a following of the Williams tradition can deter some people
With Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow Edward Shearmur has taken the classical sensibility from The Count of Monte Cristo, the chromaticism of Reign of Fire, and combined them in the grand old orchestral style of John Williams and James Horner of the early 1980's, with more than a nod towards the Golden Age masters Erich Wolfgang Korngold and Max Steiner. Of course this lends to the thought that the music loses much in the way of originality, often sounding like a mere Williams mock-up, but this would be undermining the quality of the score. The main theme, first presented in "The World of Tomorrow," is a heroic fanfare in the best superhero style, the beginning of which could be straight out of Williams' Superman of 1978. Then there is ...
Advantages: Includes the classics from the best Disney films Disadvantages: Has some less well known tracks that you might end up skipping
This triple cd full of Disney classics is a must buy for any Disney fan. As well as songs from the classic films such as Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Jungle Book, The Lion King and many more, there are various tracks from less well known films which are just as enjoyable.
There are generally one or two songs selected from each film and so if you arent listening to your favourite, it is sure to come up on the next cd. The songs are the originals from the film and so you can sing along without having to worry about the pace or lyrics changing. This is common with some other film soundtracks!
With three cds of Disney tunes there are hours of entertainment for you and your friends. This is a fantastic triple cd set to have in any collection, whether you like Disney alot...or not so much! It is fun, upbeat and takes ...
