familiar and unfamiliar. The former offers the calm of reassurance, the latter the frisson of discovery. This anthology of pieces, compiled by the National Trust, works superbly well, and in addition to fulfilling its advertised aim of being an aid to relaxation, is a mine of gorgeous little-known musical gems. The Slow Minuet from Lady Radnor's Suite by Parry is simply exquisite (and beautifully played by the English String Orchestra under William Boughton), as is the Phantasy for Viola and Orchestra by Bax. There are some excellent performances of the more popular pieces too: Kathryn Stott gives an ethereal account of Debussy's Reflets dans l'eau and the Britten Sinfonia sounds marvellously lush in Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis. The liner notes make rather spurious and heavy-handed links between each piece and various properties of the National Trust, but this is a small drawback to an otherwise fine compilation. --Warwick Thompson

Music and Lyrcis; Not only a quality film but an even better soundtrack.
Including songs created for the film performed by both Hugh Grant (who actually has a great singing voice!) and also Drew Barrymore who adds to the fun of the album.
This album was created in order to demonstrate the songs from the hit film. The songs are upbeat, happy and just damn good fun. A classic example would be the song 'Pop! Goes my heart' if you've seen the film then listening to this soundtrack will without doubt make you want to shake that pop hip.
Just like most of other of Grant's films this is indeed a romantic comedy however more so comedy. This is emphasised in some of the lyrics expressed. Such as from 'Don't write me off just yet', 'Now I need you; despite the fact that you've killed all my plants.'
The songs on this album are fun ...

*Brave New World*
Performed by David Essex. The journalist head to London and on the way meets an artilleryman. The artilleryman has a plan to build a brave new world underground away from the Martians. The journalist realises its just a pipe dream and continues on his way to London.
When he reaches London the city is deserted, the cry of Ulla from the Martian sounds strange. The Martians are dying, killed not by man and their technology, but by invisible bacteria.
Finally the album ends in the present day, NASA have landed on Mars. Suddenly the communications begin to fail, and a green streak is seen heading from Mars to Earth......then suddenly there is silence.
