Destiny’s child a group of young females from Texas, not the original quartet, but two missing members and two new members, allegedly due to some kind feud because of Beyonce, the lead singer, but did I notice until someone told me? No.
The CD’s a little strange I must say, with an intro and an outro with some weird girl power stuff, bit dodgy if U ask me, the outro is dedicated to somebody by the way. So how is the album, there are some quality track and some average tracks.
For example, the first track, track 2 is very average, they just say that they are going to be so good and keep repeating it, bit like Prince Nassem Hamed I guess…. Then it get better, next track is Bills, Bills, Bills, I’m sure you’ve heard this, in case you haven’t, this is not a song about the outgoing president, just about a “scrub” as TLC would say, nice song, works well, good tune too.
Next track confessions (feat Missy Elliot) is a bit of a bog standard r’n’b but it works quite well, and the chorus is quite good to be fair. Then Bug A Boo, a high energy anti-scrub song, with excellent lyrics, one of my favorite tracks on this album. Tehn Temptation, a very chilled out and smooth track, very good, then it gets even smoother and chilled out, with She’s gone, kind stuff you might listen to when you are chilling around at the beach, then the beat increases with Where’d You Go, which is quite polished.
The beat then increases more with “hey ladies” I think that this is pretty average, and by this time, the sound of Destiny’s Child becomes quite limited and begins to lack character. Then they rectify this by chilling out again with the sublime “If you leave” (feat Next), brilliant vocals here. Then to one of the hi-lights Jumpin’ Jumpin’, another high energy offering, it just manages to be good, yet not be significantly different.
Then track 12, song 11, Say My Name, now you realize that DC may be a bunch of self conscious power/control seeking (independent) women, it’s a brilliant song, high energy once again, but somehow different to the ones before, sweet. Then She Can’t Love You chills it out again, I don’t like this one much, a bit dull compared with the rest, a bit similar too in my opinion, so is the next track Stay, which you might expect to find in the albums of second rate female artists who try to get the R’n’b sound, so is track 15, Sweet sixteen, hmm….
Then depending on what U bought, there might be a bonus track or two, there might be “get on the bus” which is pretty average, sounds a bit like Jay-Z if U ask me, and there might be Independent Women, which is a good track, it also got to #1 too.
“The writing’s on the wall” is a class album, and I can think of may many inferior albums by reputable artists. It’s quite unique too, every song is a kinda commandment, at the end of each song, one of them says the commandment, for example, before “say my name” she says “thou shalt say my name” which is a little strange and I find it a bit silly and self-obsessive (notice how many times they say the words Destiny’s Child or DC?). Also, some may be irritated by Beyonce’s voice, she is the lead singer in every song I think, the others are kinda extras and I really don’t know if they have any talent, it would be a shame if they did.
