Some say, that many bands fail to capture the creative brilliance of their debuts, with 2005 seeing so many debuts, we may well see this over the next year. Coldplay's second album, in my opinion, simply failed to catch the brilliance of Parachutes, with Rush of Blood to the head featuring less attention grabbing songs. X and Y, the band's third album is certainly not short of incredible, euphoric moments, and is jam packed with fantastic songs.
1. Square one is one of the more rockier songs on the album, with a light techno style beginning, chris martin's voice on his lower voice comes in before a superbly though up drumbeat enters. The chorus has a very catchy bass and guitar riff. Rating:8/10.
2. What if is not one of my favourites. It starts with a piano and a voice, progressing into a second verse with violins added. The drums only begin 1:40 into the song. This is what lifts this song, but it is still to soft for me, but generally a good listen. Rating: 6/10
3. White shadows-A guitar, violin and drum beat carry this song, and i feel that it is a superb. The backing vocals lift the choruses, and key changes keep the song moving. This i feel is a really, REALLY good song. 8/10
4. Fix you- You must have been on Mars if you havent heard this song if you havnt experienced this song yet. It is carried, very slowly by an organ, gently until after the 2nd choruses, at which point the song explodes in guitar, drum, and piano. The moment when the drums build up and settle into another beat is one of these euphoric moments i was talking about. It happens at around 3 mins through the song. 10/10
5. Talk- The newest single. After fix you, it sounds a bit flat. Another good piece of drum work, and chris martin's voice is once again superb. Rating: 7/10
6. X and Y-I think this song, the title track is very much reminiscent of their earlier work on Parachutes, and has a very atmospheric air about it. This is achieved with Martin's vocals and some guitaring that has an almost lullaby quality about it. My rating 8/10
7. Speed of Sound, starting with a piano, and quickly drums. It is the bass and guitar that lift this song. It was the first single, and well worth a listen. Another one of those fantastic moments is achieved in the last bridge of the song. Rating: 9/10
8. A message- Some albums have awful tail ends. The reality is, the end of an album has to be different i feel from the first part. This song, however, is very pleasant, it is just an acoustic song for last points, but very good lyrics and superb singing make it a good song. Rating 7/10
9. Low sees a return to the earlier rockier ambitions of the album, however, with very good bass influence. And fantastic sounding vocals, also fairly little piano it is interesting to notice. Rating: 8/10
10. The hardest part- a very good album track, not good enough to be a single i would think. But still good drum beats, piano, abss and guitar riffs that have the foot tapping, and Chris Martin's superb vocals are present. Rating 7.5/10
11. Swallowed in the sea, i think it is the weak link, i think its a bit lathargic, with a slow beat. Rating 5/10
12. Twisted logic, i feel again, is not the best song. The guitar riff is reminiscent of everybody hurts by REM. rating 5/10
13. A strong finish, i feel is achieved in Kingdom come, even though it is slightly reminiscent of a christmas carol, the guitar and chris martin's singing ability carry this through. 7/10 In general, i think the lyric writing on this album is superb, as is the general skill of musicians to put this sound together. And for that, I acknowledge coldplay as a superb band.

Personally I think Coldplay are dead boring, but good review nonetheless! Triciax

Ok review. It could have done with a bit about the background of Coldplay, fortunately I do listen to coldplay so it's not too much of a bother. A better structure of the review would help also. The best way to write a review is to write it as if your explaining it to someone who's never heard of the product before. Don't take the advice as me trying to degrade you because I'm not, just trying to help. Good effort though and at least you're still here. Keep up the faith. Faye x : )
