The HappyMondays are an acquired taste. I can quite understand why a lot of people would not be able to stomach any of their, ahem, work. But that's exactly the point. You see, the HappyMondays were the seeds of a lazy, disillusioned and dirty generation. They made music the only way they knew how. Hell, they got accused of plagiarism left, right and centre, but it was all good fun. And at times, great music too.
I won't pretend to know a huge amount about the HappyMondays, but here goes.
The classic band was;
Shaun Ryder: Lead singer, purveyor of filthy and sometimes visionary lyricism, consumer of copious amounts of alcohol, ecstacy, and other mind-altering substances. Lad with a capital 'L', with a mouth like a sewer.
Paul Ryder: Brother of Shaun, scowling, goateed bassist.
Mark 'Moose' Day: Madcap and crazee lead ...
Advantages: everyone likes it ! Disadvantages: can't think of one !
My boyfriend bought me a bottle of "Happy" as a present, and I didn't use any other perfume until it was almost finished. This must say something about the quality of the product :)

Well, "Happy" is one of those scents that people wanna know about and it doesn't seem to 'bother' anyone ! It smells like fresh flowers and citrus but it's not too strong. You only need to apply a little at a time. The staying power is quite good. The bottle is simple but beautiful. ...

Happy Mondays: Shaun Ryder (vocals); Paul Ryder (guitar, bass); Mark Day (guitar); Paul Davis (keyboards); Gary Whelan (drums). Additional personnel: Kermit (vocals); Bruce Martin (percussion); Rowetta (background vocals). Recorded at Blue Wave Studio, St. Philip, Barbados and Comfort's Place Studio, Lingfield, Surrey, England. By the time this album was recorded and released in '92, the Happy Mondays had visibly unraveled. Travelling to Barbados to record with Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz, the band--Ryder in particular--was spiraling into a pit of drug addiction. The first half of this CD is very strong. Featuring rehab favorites "Stinkin Thinkin," "Monkey in the Family," "Sunshine and Love," and "Dustman," the drug theme quickly devolved into a drug-addled mess: Ryder spent less and less time in the studio and more and more time on the streets of Barbados looking for crack rocks. Not long after, Ryder excused himself from the record company meeting where the Mondays were renegotiating their contract to go buy heroin. They were instantly dropped from their label and the Happy Mondays were no more. This album is a lot better than its initial reviews stated. YES, PLEASE has a penetrating honesty about the disintegrating state of its creators, making it a confession album easy to like.
