You're Getting To Be A Habit With Me - Ruby Braff

...bound to get compared to Stereophonics. I suppose there is some similarity with their earlier albums, though Ruby Cruiser aren't as gravely - they're a bit more upbeat and bouncy. Certainly the general sound or 'feel' of the music is fairly happy, even if the subjects aren't always - rather like Lit, though I generally find them depressing. I think they probably listened to quite a few Beach Boys records too, though the West Coast pop influence is certainly well-buried under the shoutier bits! Perhaps I could also name check the likes of Terrorvision or Weezer; I can't think of anyone quite like Ruby Cruiser, but if you're a broad-minded fan of most rock/pop (including the aforementioned) then let me describe the album for you. It's a concept album in a way - as the title puts it 'Twelve Short Stories', and that's exactly what it is... Read review

...Are you one of those people who moan about bands always covering old classic songs? You know, maybe you objected to Boyzone covering Love me For a Reason because you always thought the Osmond's with their pearly white teeth and their clean cut all-American image were the better singers? If you hate cover versions, then I can tell you you'll hate this band. Me First and The Gimme Gimmes ARE a cover band. They have never released a song they've written themselves, and they probably never intend to. However, the Gimme Gimmes are not some Irish boy band hoping to storm to the top of the charts by singing a cheesy cover of an Abba song in a sickly sweet four part harmony riding on no talent but a pretty boy image. That said, they're NOT talentless. The band formed as a jokey little sideline for members of such high profile bands... Read review

...girl, from Jamaica, hey? I think that Ruby Turner is somewhat under-rated in the United Kingdom. If you do get the opportunity to listen to this CD, I think you might want to agree with me.
