Young Lust: Gathering 34 songs from Aerosmith's career

This was my second Aerosmith album which I purchased. As mentioned in my other review, I don't judge the songs as to if they live up to songs earlier in Aerosmith's career. I just judge the songs for as they are. I don't see any point complaining about what isn't on the CD but should have been. Take it for what it is, is what I say.

This Geffen Anthology of Aerosmith songs consists of 2 CDs in which tallies up 34 songs. One major problem is, if you have a collection of Aerosmith songs already, you are in danger of having duplicates - that is the con. If you have no other Aerosmith albums, this is a great product to go for. However, alot of these songs can also be found on the "Big Ones" as well as "O, Yeah! Ultimate Aerosmith Hits!"

There are however a few rarities on this album, and they sound in my opinion, great.

The "Right" disc includes:

1. Eat The Rich
2. Love Me Two Times
3. Head First
4. Livin' On The Edge - acoustic version
5. Don't Stop
6. Can't Stop Messin'
7. Amazing - Orchestral version
8. Cryin'
9. Crazy
10. Shut Up And Dance
11. Deuces Are Wild
12. Walk On Water
13. Blind Man
14. Falling In Love (Is So Hard On The Knees **LIVE)
15. Dream On **LIVE
16. Hole In My Soul **LIVE
17. Sweet Emotion **LIVE

The "Left" disc includes:

1. Let The Music Do The Talking
2. My Fist Your Face
3. Shame On You
4. Heart's Done Time
5. Rag Doll
6. Dude (Looks Like A Lady)
7. Angel
8. Hangman Jury
9. Permanent Vacation
10. Young Lust
11. The Other Side
12. What It Takes
13. Monkey On My Back
14. Love In An Elevator
15. Janie's Got A Gun
16. Ain't Enough
17. Walk This Way (with Run-DMC)

Now, looking at each song from the right disc.

Eat The Rich: Starting off with a kind of tribal kind of drum beat, and eventually turning in to a lively, fast paced rock song. Great lyrics on this song, and it is one of my favourites on this disc. The guitar and bass accompanied by Tyler's vocals on the chorus make this song great. Another of my favourite lines from the song: "Cause I'm sick of your complaining, about your poodles and your pills!"

Love Me Two Times Perry's guitar playing on this track is fantastic, easy to remember lyrics, easy to sing alone too. A nice tempo and nice in contrast to the track just before it.

Head First This song I had not heard untill I purchased the album. As before, lyrics to sing along to, and a nice steady tempo. Some nice short guitar solos included in this track. I grew to like this track straight away. Great to listen to while in the car or something like that.

Livin On The Edge - Acoustic Version: I prefer the original version of this to be honest, but this is still a good song. With an Eastern style of music backing it is a nice relaxed song. Generally just a nice song. Like stated above, prefer the original, but this is still a good song. A good solid chorus.

Don't Stop: Hard bass beats, fast tempo.I had not heard this song untill I purchased this album. It is rock.Catchy tune and great guitar playing.

Can't Stop Messin': This track is great! Previously unreleased! Its a good rocker and very catchy!

Amazing - Orchestral version: I am a great fan on the original of this version - (Which I wish was included on this album). Slow tempo, great lyrics and added orchestral backing. One of the high points of the whole album in my opinion. Great song based around the singing at the start and about half way through alternates and bases its self around the guitar playing, with Tyler's shouts and screams. The song lives up to it's name: Amazing.

Crying After hearing the last track fade off we hear some heavy bass and guitar, which then mellows for a short period while Tyler starts off the sining. Great lyrics and a great chorus. One of the best parts of this song being: "If our, love goes up, in flames, it's a fire, I can't resist!. Which eventually leads on to the chorus.

Crazy Starting off with some drum beats and harmonica, along side Tyler talking the lyrics. The harmonica and bass, accompanied by the jangly guitars in the background - especially on the chorus - make this a great song. Nice soft tempo, and often gets replayed over and over again by me. Not to be missed!

Shut Up and Dance: A faster tempo and more uplifting than the previous track. Great guitar solo included in this song. Nothing special though. "A tear just hit, the ground"

Deuces Are Wild: Starting off with a soft jangly guitar, Tyler doing some soft yowling. The guitar lifts slightly and so does the bass. A nice steady song, with a great solid chorus which anyone can sing alone too. This also is one of the high points of the album. Some nice "pan pipe" sounding effects in the background. It always cheers me up. Like deja vu I feel like I've been here..

Walk On Water: Back to some harder rock. Starting with hard guitar and bass, which runs through out the track. Slightly more ruder lyrics. One of my favourite songs also. I woke up humming this to myself the other day, vry catchy tune.

Blind Man: A few people I know of aren't really in to this song. However I personally think it is a great song. Starts off slow and then kicks up in to a chorus with nice guitar slams and great singing from Tyler. The second chorus is where this song mainly picks up.

Falling In Love- Is Hard On The Knees **LIVE** I already had this on my Nine Lives CD - but wait! This is the liver version! Harder than the original and of course a few more added effects for the live performance. A great song in live.

Dream On **LIVE**: A great power ballard and one of the high points also of this whole album. One of the best songs ever produced by Aerosmith - Live! Great to listen too, and that is what you should be doing."Sing with me, sing for the year"

Hole In My Soul **LIVE**: Oh, another song from the Nine Lives Album. Ah! Well, it is almost like a cimplete different song, abit lighter on the bass, and more guitar heavy strings. An emotional chorus accompanied by growling guitars and bass slams. The way Tyler sings the second chorus on this version is amazing. The last chorus also, is amazing with the backing vocals.

Sweet Emotion **LIVE** Starting with some loud eerie effects, along side the well known sweet emotion beat. Tyler's singing on this track is awesome and one of the highlights of the album. The guitar and beats in between each sentence sang by Tyler are great. Very catchy. A nice rock song.

The Left disc:

Let The Music Do The Talkin': Like the title of the song is: Let the Music do the talking. I personally find this rock song great. Perry gets to show off his guitar skills. Lyrics are limited, but the main point here is the actual music.

My Fist Your face: A great rock song from the Done With Mirrors album. The song is very catchy and great to listen to as you drive in your car.

Shame On You: The bass and guitar that runs throught this track is great. A great beat that runs through the course of the song, with the occasional higher guitar noise. Tyler's singing goes great with the beat.

Heart's Done Time: A good beat yet again. Nice chorus: "Ohhhh, heart's done time, Ohhhh , now she's mine!" which is followed with some fast buzzing guitar sounds. The bass backs up the song perfectly.

Rag Doll: Starting off with an heavy beat, joined by a some guitar.A decent song - nothing special. The chorus saves the song in my opinion.

Dude - Looks Like A Lady! Starts with a guitar kicking up, the some bass, which keeps cutting off every few seconds, untill it finally cranks up. A well known song, and very energetic. A few cleverly disguised sexual references in the song. A grea rocking tune. Tyler's ywling towards the end are great.

Angel: A great power ballard. You have to be in the right mood for it.It sounds more like "pop" than rock. It isn't something you want to listen to if you are already in the saddest moods you can be in. Started off by a loud guitar, which fades in to some soft music as Tyler sings the great lyrics. It then cranks back up again for the chorus, which includes a kind of orchestral effect. A great song! This is one of the highlights of the album also. "Without your love I'm nothing but a beggar, without your love, a dog without a bone.......Your my angel! Come and save me tonight..."

Hangman Jury Sounds off sarting like you are in a swamp, with croaking frogs and crickets. Then sounding like something out of a cowboy film. I was not to keen on it the first time but it has grown on me since and is now one of my favourites. The song lifts up featuring guitar and bass. Oh boy dontcha line the track,Oh boy dontcha line the track a lack a, Oh boy dontcha line the track!

Permanant Vacation: Guitar, jungle effects, later followed by some heavy bass. Another song with an exotic feel to it. A fast paced track and catchy tune that will have you singing along.

Young Lust: The name of the Album. Also one of the greatest songs on the album. A fast paced rock song. Words can't describe how catchy this is! Best to check it out yourself. All thw words in the song flow greatly from one to the next. Starting with heavy guitar and bass - which sounds like a gun shot. Some of the best guitar on this song is found just after the words: Hangin' from the clothes line" I play this one over and over...

The Other Side: A great song with a nice pace and lyrics. It's quite jazzy and bass plays a large roll in this song.

What It Takes: One of my favourite songs I could listen to all day. An highlight of the album also. A moving song begining with some nice drums and a sad-like guitar. Slow paced but lifts up accordingly with Tyler's singing. "You spent me up like a <money then you hung me out to dry, it was easy to keep all your lies in disguise, cause you had me in deep with the devil in your eye! - Tell me what it takes to let you go!"

Monkey On My Back: A very heavy rock song, fast paced compared to the previous track. Good sound effects in this song. It is now a favourite of mine.

Love In An Elevator: One of the more famous Aerosmith songs -I think? This song is great from the word go! Lyrics go from one to the next with no problem at all. A great song to listen to if you are feeling low.A great guitar solo included in this track which starts around 1:27 untill about 2:03 "Lovin it up when I'm going down!"

Janie's Got A Gun: Spooky begining. One of the highlights of the album. Starts quite mellow along side gun shot sounds, then gets more upbeat, along an orchestral kind of backing, as well as with a piano. Full of so many different intruments and it all fits perfect - it's great! This track includes a great jangly guitar. "She had to take him down easy! And put a bullet in his brain! She said cause nobody believes me, the man is such a sleaze!". The music sounds like Hitchcock's psycho for a brief period during the song. A great rock song!

Ain't Enough: A very fast paced song, fast lyrics as well as music. Some excellent shouting from Tyler. Good to listen too, nothing special in my opinion however.

Walk This Way with RUN D.M.C The song most people know Aerosmith for. I have heard this one so much it has begin to bore me. I prefer the original to be honest.

And that concludes it, all 34 songs covered.

If you don't have many Aerosmith albums and have only a limited amount of cash to spend - buy this!

The main problem with this is that it doesn't include Aerosmith's earlier songs from their 70s era.
