...Urban Hymns By The Verve was released in 1997 on HUT records and got media acclaim right along the board. It is probably one of the best albums of the 90’s with a very indie sound. Songs like ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ and ‘The Drugs Don’t Work’ have become classics in there own write. Apart form those tracks there are also other great songs such as ‘Catching The Butterfly’ and my favourite song on the album ‘Sonnet’ this song contains classic Verve and lyrical genius. This is Richard Ashcroft’s masterpiece and what ever he does as a solo artist he will never beat this....

Advantages: every track playable Disadvantages: no enough tracks
...urban hymns was without doubt one of the best albums of the nineties.every track was differant, from the awsome energy of "come on"to the downbeat and mellow "the drugs dont work"i have almost worn out this c.d. it sounds just as good today as it did when i first heard it.in my eyes it is a masterpeice, never to be bettered.i dont know many people who dont like it.the album takes you through almost every mood you feel. definetly worth a place in your c.d. collection.although not playing any more, this album will continue to sell for years....

Advantages: Incredibly Original, Great riffs, Tims cool voice, Catchy tunes Disadvantages: 23 tracks - too long, shoulda cut off the 5 weakest ones, could do with a few solos
...by most people. Radio is really catchy. Salvation is my favourite because its a really nice whoa kind of song with some cool riffs.
The rest of the songs are pretty mcuh layout of tims verse and a backing vox chorus. Theres too many to mention but they are pretty original and definately no album fillers
Heres the top few songs for the average listener:
Radio
Salvation
Side kick
Gave it Away
Black and Blue
Solidarity
7 years down
As One
Burn
(i would name more but that would defeat the object of "few")
Heres one for a h/c kinda person:
Nihilism
Heres top few for some who likes cradle of filth:
........
cool stuff about this album:
- Really nice backing vocals to emphasise choruses
- Highly original
- Good generally, no matter what your musical tastes may be
- Great lyrics, covers a range of social issues, stuff like poverty, unity, freedom...
