Your Favourites - Vaughn Monroe

Advantages: Melodic lyrics, catchy drum and base, depth in lyrics, air guitar moments

...This is one of the best, starter albums from any band in this modern day genre and your Favourite Weapon will soon become one of Your Favourite Albums. It is undoubtedly a masterpiece from the New Jersey melodic rock/punk quartet. The band is lead by Jesse Lacey's monotone, beautiful vocals and inspirational lyrics. These are backed up tremendously by the rest of the band in echo effect. The guitar varies vastly on this album, from the crazy, catchy riffs of electric on "70x7" to the softer, acoutic songs like "Soco Amaretto Lime". There is undoubetdly raging teenage hormones, of lust, hate and revenge, throughout the songs but in my opinion this is the spice that makes them stand out from other bands like Taking Back Sunday. ...To Lose Your Keys". More strong lyrics and the same old theme of being let down by a girl. Containing a fantastic corus: "It's girls like you that make me think I'm better off home on a Saturday night with all my doors locked up tight" Brand New are singing what all boys must have thought at some point in their lives. "Logan To Government Center" is a great song which connects nicely with "Jude Law And A Semester Abroad" and deals with long distance relationships. This is a nice link and certainly adds to the album. "No Seatbelt Song" is possibly the best song on this album, slightly slower and more calm - again it shows why Brand New are so fantastic. It is beautifully song and has some of the best lyrics on the album for example "perfect eyes will have perfect hate" and "I shot the pilot, now I'm begging you to fly this for me... Read review

Advantages: Infectious songs that make you feel you can take on the world
Disadvantages: There is a feel that the songs are too similar

...When I first heard the Hives I pretty much immediately fell in love with them. It was on Xfm and I was revising for exams that I just couldn't be bothered to do. My dad was shouting at me for not working hard enough and I felt a combination of aggression and depression - summed up as 'pissed off'. Then my radio bursts into life with a sound of a guitar being played in the way bands such as The Clash and The Rolling Stones can have an appreciation for. Then the drums burst in with a swaggering crash of cymbols only to be followed by a simple yet loud and head banging thwack of the snare drum before exploding into the meat of the song. This was 'Hate To Say I Told You So', the song that tells everyone it sees, "Hi, nice to meet you but if you get in my way, I will boot your insignificant arse into next Tuesday". It's a definate...
