so i was fed up of listning to the same old wihny voices of chocked up pop idols, and american divas...id almost given up on the music industry, when one night, on the oh so credible top of the pops, i heard a song that would change my life forever.
ok, so perhaps i wouldnt go that far, but i have to say when i heard the sexual screaming tones of pele shouting out *hate to say i told you say* i did look twice, and boy was i glad i did!
like something off the front of one of me dads old stones lp's, the hives looked, and sounded thouraghly retro. like a breath of fresh air those sweedish lads sounded, so, as soon as i could, i bought the album of collected hits *your new favorite band*

There are some real gems on this cd, such as *hate tosay i told you so* *mad man* *untutored youth* and *outsmarted*. they deliver catchy tunes, to shout along to when youve had one of *those* days, and give you that little bit of an edge, without being too raaaaaar rockish. the lyrics wont offend anyone, but are just sugestive enough to make you feel you have one up on your parents!

Track run down.

1. hate to say i told you so:
the song that really launched them into *mainstream* uk music. its catchy chorus, and throwback squeels are quite something else1 chances are youve heard this song, and sun along, but diddnt know who it was by..well now u do!

2. main offender:
along similar lines here really. catchy tune, which is missing on modern rock bands i think. a lot of screaming, so tune. this is different. not the best track tho.

3. supply and demand:
(oh im sure u would pele!) inovitive lyrics, a good one to chant to after the boss rubs you up the wrong way!

4. die alright:
quite the fav. track by me. the basically *live whilst you can-your going to die anyhoo* message really gets your angry blood flowing!...nice to hear the rest of the band contributing on this one as well.

5. untutored youth:
a bit army like. by that i mean, listen out for the drums, and almost marching like beat...sing along if you can, but its quite the fast track!

6. outsmarted:
nice tune, not fantastic lyrics.

7. MAD MAN!!!!
now this is cock rock at its best! * mad man he operated, went in, opend up, and separated. he made a mess-tried to restore it but it was all in vain, when the one holding the knife answers to the name...MAAAAAAAAD MAN!*
just keep an eye out for the sexy deep screams on this track! id try to analysie it, but really u have 2 listen to it, to get the feel of it.. silly, but brilliant!

8. here we go again:
not memorible enough for me to remember how it went! says something...

9. a.k.a I-D-I-O-T.
nice chance to have a go at all those who have called you names behind your back. great to air guitar along to also.

10. automatic schmuck:
this track allows you to see peles vocals to the full. the chorus intorduces you to sounds previously unheard by the band, and they tend to sing that little bit more than shout!

11. hail hail spit and drool:
you want to like this track, simply for its title(!) but once you get over the initial lust(!), its not one of the bets tracks on the album. a bit bland, and short, it seams more of a filler than a proper song.

12. the hives are law, you are crime:
such an amazing title, but no lyrics! this is a musical piece, which demonstrates other members of the bands talents. good song to finish the album with, and edgy little guitar swigs.

Overall, i dont think you can really review the album succesfully. in order to get a full feel of it, you better listen to it. the hives, unlike other bands, arnt on a contant wave of publicity, and have the ability to make their own way around (and indeed, into our heart....ahhh!). Despite the heavyness of the tracks, i would definately describe this sweedish pop punk-rock spectacular , as a breath of (angst filled) fresh air.
