but Youthanasiamakes up the difference with more accessible,radio-friendly production and tighter riffs. Unfortunately, theyhave abandoned some of the more experimental, progressive elementsin their music, but those are hardly missed in the jackhammer riffsof tracks like "Train of Consequences."
Advantages: A great follow-up to the critically acclaimed 'Countdown To Exctinction' Disadvantages: The extra tracks are nothing amazing

I have always been a huge fan of megadeth so when i bought this album i had high expectations, and i can honestly say I was not dissapointed. This album was the follow-up to the critically acclaimed 'Countdown To Extinction' so the whole metal industry was eagerly awaiting 'Youthanasia'. The album was originally released in October 1994, however here i am reviewing the remastered version which was released in July 2004.
Although 'Youthansia' is not as musically complexed as 'Countdown To Exctinction' and 'Rust In Peace (1990)' it is still a great album to listen to. Dave Mustaine (Rhythm Guitar & Vocals) delivers some mean rhythm parts like always with a great guitar tone. Whilst Marty Friedman (Lead Guitars) creates some amazing solo's using his knowledge of music to his full potential. Nick Menza (Drums) doesn't really show his real ability on this album, however none the less the drums still sound good. Finally David Ellefson (Bass Guitar) plays well on this album keeping the bvass flowing and a few short bass solo's.
This album has been remastered by Dave Mustaine in 2004 and the sound is much better in my opinion. For a Start The Drums are so much clearer, especially on tracks like 'Addicted To Chaos' and 'Reckoning Day'. The overall album has a huge sense of clarity in the sound compared to the original and in my opion the album has been remastered excellently.
The only let down for me on this remastered version of 'Youthanasia' is the bonus tracks, I feel that they are not anything special. The sound quality of the bonus tracks are not that amazing either due to the fact that most of them are demo's.
Here is the tracklisting for the album:
1. Reckoning Day 2. Train Of Consequences 3. Addicted To Chaos 4. A Tout Le Monde 5. Elysian Fields 6. The Killing Road 7. Blood Of Heroes 8. Family Tree 9. Youthanasia 10. Album Notes
Megadeth: Dave Mustaine (vocals, guitar); David Ellefson, Marty Friedman, Nick Menza. Recording information: Fat Planet, Hangar 18, Phoenix, Arizona. The unnavoidable spiritually-damaged roar is audible immediately. Before even a single lyric of YOUTHANASIA's lead track "Reckoning Day" is uttered, the fierce twin guitar attack and the pounding double-bass drums betray the band's poetic motives. By the time singer/lyricist Dave Mustaine admits that "Life's fabric is corrupt/Shot through with corroded thread" on YOUTHANASIA's second track--and first single--"Train Of Consequences," Megadeth's plan of action is more than obvious. Disillusionment is at the core of life, Mustaine warns today's youth, recognize it early on before it grinds you down. While such themes are an every day part of the speed-metal genre, YOUTHANASIA tackles the subject of maturing in the face of adversity with the skill of knowing professionals. Fitted into the album's sleek and streamlined production are arguments that straddle the border between complexity and naivete, but whose overall thesis is just as important to its alienated audience as gangsta rap is to its own. And while the grandeur of tracks like "A Tout Le Monde" or "Elysian Fields" can be off-putting, they ultimately become life-affirming gestures for those who actually listen.
Album Reviews
Rolling Stone (12/29/94-1/12/95, p.173) - "...Megadeth's secret weapon--an oiled precision that suggests Stygian rehearsals--is calibrated to kill..." Q (12/94, p.136) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "...The trademark crunchy riffs, thundering drums...[and] bitter vocals are all intact, but there is a more introspective slant on the lyrics than hitherto, giving the album greater depth and breadth than its predecessors..." Musician (12/94, p.90) - "...The Megadeath CD is kind of cool....lots of fat melodic guitar riffs and deep-dish thumping from the boys in the back..."
