Album Reviews: Alternative Press (4/00, p.100) - 4 out of 5 - "...[Their] sense of hyperactive, angular sprawl blossoms like the man-eating flower in LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS....about as forgettable as being in a 12-car pile-up on New Year's Eve 2000....Long live the Skull." CMJ (1/24/00, p.25) - "...The band is at its thorniest and most kinetic...6 tracks of hyperactive, feedback-drenched barbs....an admirable bow by one of the few recent smart, non-slick punk bands to crank the volume knob until it breaks off..."
Advantages: Amazing Skacore Disadvantages: More of the same?
...This is the latest offering from prestigious American Skacore legends Voodoo Glow Skulls. The band have been around for some time now, but on this new album they show no signs of slowing down and are still creating the amazing music they always were. There are 14 tracks on display here and none will disappoint. ...Skull Ring is one of the best Iggy Pop albums in my opinion. It's amazing to think how old he was, when this album was made and to put so much energy and power into it is simply phenomenal. Every song on the album just bombs along with raw power! Superbabe, Motor Inn, Little Electric Chair and Nervous Exhaustion are just legendary anthems. This is probably Iggy's heaviest album ever and he pulls it off easily, some of the songs don't have the same effect live as on the album, they definitely did a good job on the recording of the songs.
If you just want one Iggy Pop album, I would choose this or Raw Power everytime but this shouldn't undermine his other albums which are also great fun....
