As We Beg And Steal And Borrow
Review of Be Here Now - Oasis by
Andy.mack
Advantages: Some cracking tracks, another example of why Oasis have been so successful
Disadvantages: The first signs of slightly poorer tracks
...natural that the third wouldn't be quite as good. That's not saying it was a bad album, because it wasn't, it just didn't compare to the earlier 2. They set the standard so high with the firs two albums that the expectation was extremely high. The more I've listened to the album the more I've appreciated it and I think that's probably more what Noel was going for.
Rather than hook you straight away, Be Here Now is more of a grower. Again it had ... ...why they are considered to be one of the best Indie rock bands in the world. There is a higher tempo to this album than What's the Story and with certain tracks that really works well. One of my favourite tracks on the album is "I Hope, I Think, I Know", which provides the perfect blend of up tempo guitars and a decent backing drumbeat. As with all tracks on the album the vocals merge into the track nicely and that helps to make it a lot more listenable.

Review of Bummed - Happy Mondays by
earlofaldgate
Advantages: madchester
Disadvantages: you cant hear it too well if your hoodie is up
Ironic happiness of workers at the start of the week? a response to I don't like Mondays? a response to another Manchester band-new orders blue Monday? wherever the name came from you have to admit they have a style of their own wether you like their music or not. BUMMED, the follow-up to 24 hour party people was produced Martin Hannett and released in November 1998.Drug influenced, almost Dadaist, huge drums, sirens, voice samples, funky guitar ... ...turkey lurkey goosey loosey and got away with it, quite a feat in itself. Almost a rap, sometimes a shout he was unique in his singing style & his lyrics had a nursery rhyme quality that oasis would eventually copy. The album runs to approx 46 minutes with do it better taking just over 2 minutes to leave room for the 6 minute epic wrote for luck. This is a good starting point for anyone who hasn't heard anything by the band

The collection - Shed seven
Review of Collection, The - Shed Seven by
jellybe4n
Advantages: Good collection of songs for those who were fans of the band
Disadvantages: Missing a lot of their top singles.
A collection of the greatest songs by Shed seven, the long time workhorses of the Indie-rock / Britpop scene. This album does include a few of their classics such as the student anthems of Speakeasy, Bully boy and the more gentle and catchy Going for gold, as well as including one of my personal favourite songs in the brilliant parallel lines. The problem with this album however is they seem to have failed in their balancing of mixing their best ... ...there are too many of their best songs missing. Very conspicuous in their absence are the great hits Dolphin, On standby and Chasing rainbows which means this album would be better suited to a true fan of the band rather than someone looking for a "best of" album and hoping to hear all of their best hits!
This would be a very good purchase though to relive some of their old days, especially with a reunion tour to come at the end of 2007! Long live ...

Definatley Maybe
Review of Definitely Maybe - Oasis by
jon3782001
Advantages: Pop rock perfection.
Disadvantages: You'll never buy a better album again. Sadly.
Everyone once in a while we have an album that comes out, at exactly the right time, that conveys the mood of the time and all in all is just sheer perfection. Nothing comes closer to this criteria than Definatley Maybe. This is Oasis at their desperate best. Wanting so badly to become the best in the world. To get away from the dangers and miserable existance of living in a Burnage slum and live the life. This is the album. You'll hear this optimism ... ...that glamourise death and drug use. It doesn't mess about with annoying concepts, stupid artwork or lyrics that set out to preach to the world about a certain point. It hits you right in the face without messing around. Rock and Roll Star is the first track, and what a track it is. If the first track is this raw and full of energy, you can predict a lot of potential for the rest of the album. You may think that the rest are fillers compared to this. ...

Don't believe the truth.
Review of Don't Believe The Truth - Oasis by
jon3782001
Advantages: British songwriting talent at it's best
Disadvantages: None. Flawless.
An excellent return to form from the Oasis boys. An album that was very welcome at the time just like Morning Glory but perhaps to a lesser extent. The album itself has a very English, 60s and Kink's style vibe to it. The most noticable track of this style has to be the Importance of Being Idle. A very unique song, feature the older brother, Noel on mad Falsetto vocals which give the song a very upbeat and optimistic feel. He's not wrong when he ... ...similar chord progression to "Lazing on a sunny afternoon" with the intro and melody of The La's Clean Prophet. Oasis are very much sticking to their old formula of pretty much plagurising other bands to make a great song themselves, wear their influences on their shoulders. But from Noel's typical method, there a five tracks contributed by all members of the band, each of them very good, very different and show a different facet to Oasis' ever growing ...
