A Dark, Difficult and Wonderful Album
Review of Boys For Pele - Tori Amos by
Jessicadon
Advantages: It's brilliant!
Disadvantages: Initially hard to get into it
This is my favourite Tori album - and probably my favourite album ever. Tori herself says it might take you a bottle of red wine to get into it - and she's probably right! It's hard to get into - it took me a few months but it's well worth the effort - because you will hear new things in it every time you listen to it. It's dense, multi-layered, complex, beautiful, dark, sensual, raw, haunting and - I hestitate to use the word, but I think it's justified ... ...Sneeze, with its haunting drum loop; the subtle piano-led Not The Red Baron, and the sweeping orchestration of Marianne are perennial favourites but I love them all, to be honest. Each song has been important to me at some point - and in that way, it's an album that just keeps on giving! I think Tori was at a low point in her life when she wrote this - after the end of a long term relationship - and I think this album is her gathering her forces ...

The hidden track didn't hide well enough..
Review of Feels Like Today [ECD] - Rascal Flatts by
bamamo
Advantages: Some very strong tracks, easy to listen to, catchy
Disadvantages: lyrics are somewhat cheesy, some songs sound like I've heard them before.
...enjoyed it. 7/10.
4. Feels Like Today - Not a stand-out, but definitely a strong song to follow on from a good previous track. 6/10.
5. Fast Cars And Freedom - This is my favourite on the album, it's about a woman being reassured that even though she's getting older, her man still thinks of the old days when they were young and free when he looks at her and that she's never changed. It's upbeat and fun and for me it's my pick. 9/10
6. When The ... ...enjoyable.
If you like Feels Like Today, I highly recommend you check out their other CDs, especially the latest, Still Feels Good, and Me and My Gang. For me, their CDs never really have any truly weak tracks that I have to actually press skip for, they are all listenable at least. Feels Like Today is currently on Amazon for £10.47 but you can probably pick it up cheaper on eBay and as they are so popular it is definitely available for download ...

Nothing Naive Bout These Guys!!
Review of Inside In/Inside Out - Kooks by
blondgem
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...thought that their first album Inside In Inside Out was one of the best albums that I had bought in the year that it was released. I'm surprised that it didn't get worn out and still remains in my car with the others that I listen to on a more regular basis.
The Kooks from Brighton are an Indie Rock band and were established in 2004. Following the release of their first track, Naive, off the album, they had a succession of hits from their debut ... ...been a great hit.
ALthough I have not purchased the new album yet, it is on my list to buy and I can't wait. Inside In / Inside Out is a great album, if they have come up with an album better than that then it would be superb. ...

A Little Madness Never Hurt Anyone
Review of La Folie [Remastered] - Stranglers (The) by
Volta120
Advantages: A fast-paced, imaginative and immaculately-produced work
Disadvantages: Perhaps a little too 'poppy' for the purists. Some pointless extra tracks
Ladies and gentlemen, please take your partners for the last waltz! Okay, it's not really an appropriate image to conjure up when thinking of the Stranglers but it is a picture that comes to my mind whenever I think about or listen to La Folie. Released at the end of 1981, this was the band's sixth studio album and the last they released for EMI (four under United Artists and two under Liberty). Five years had elapsed since their first recording, ... ...unmistakeable feeling that the band had gone full-circle. That roundabout journey had been rapid, fascinating and sometimes wild. From the glorious raw virtuosity of 1977 through the dark imaginings of 78 and 79 towards a surreal and none-too-successful journey into space and back in 1980, there had never been a dull moment with the Meninblack. But that last-mentioned journey (the Gospel fiasco) had unnerved EMI and they had 'insisted' that the ...

Don't Wanna Hear That Monkey Wrench
Review of Colour And The Shape, The - Foo Fighters by
RazzaLazza
Advantages: Twelve incredibly fine tracks feature here.
Disadvantages: One track from this album is really quite disappointing.
'The Colour and the Shape' is the second Foo Fighters album which was released through Capitol Records in 1997. The album possesses the track 'Monkey Wrench' which seems to be quite a popular one with the vast majority of major fans of the band I've come across in the past; I personally do not derive much enjoyment whatsoever from listening to this one but still find this album to be hugely enjoyable and highly entertaining on the whole. The album ... ...music to begin this 'The Colour and the Shape' album with and I for one absolutely love it.
This album possesses such incredibly well put together pieces of music as 'My Poor Brain', 'Everlong', and 'My Hero' also. I think of this bunch it would definitely have to be 'My Poor Brain' that appeals to me most here. The track ranges between supremely quiet and incredibly loud; there are explosions of sound throughout the track and always the music created ...
